Seems like we throw that term around a lot since Trump was elected President. I wanted to be sure I understood who they actually are. Here is what I found. www.nae.net/what-is-an-evangelical/"Historian David Bebbington also provides a helpful summary of evangelical distinctives, identifying four primary characteristics of evangelicalism:
. Conversionism: the belief that lives need to be transformed through a “born-again” experience and a life long process of following Jesus . Activism: the expression and demonstration of the gospel in missionary and social reform efforts . Biblicism: a high regard for and obedience to the Bible as the ultimate authority . Crucicentrism: a stress on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as making possible the redemption of humanity"

My neighbor is a born again and she literally locked herself in apt for some yrs and read the bible all day. Lot more to the story but I'd better stop.
Was trump a born again fanatic? I somehow don't believe so..supposedly protestant. But more sure I can't waste my energy on him.

Trump has the support of the Evangecials. You ask why? Lol.
Not sure. Lol. I do know they are watching and waiting for the destruction of planet Earth. Why you ask? Because they believe when that happens their God will set up a new Heaven and a new Earth. At that time they will all be sitting at the right hand of their God for eternity. Every single one of them.
While they are all sitting around in Heaven they will also be able to look down into Hell and see all the rest of us, the sinners, burning and being tortured for eternity. Hey, it's something to look forward to, right?
Good times for sure.

Joymarty, you don't need common sense, reason, or logic. All you need is faith. Just believe. Never question or doubt. Simply believe and have faith. What could possibly go wrong with that mindset? Just follow orders.

I believe that people who are fanatical about anything - God, religion, exercise, diet, government, child-rearing, faith or ANY other aspect of life; people that are absolutely certain that their way is the right way to the exclusion of all else are actually in doubt of their own conviction and feel an overwhelming need to convince others simply for the validation that agreement provides.
OR there is personal profit involved.
Too deep? Move on.
Sorry, life has taught me to be a cynic.

Just follow orders. Well, when I went into my bedroom to listen to Terry Gross at noon she was interviewing the author who just wrote www.harpercollins.com/9780062368539/why-religion/Very interesting interview and Elaine Pagels talked about her childhood and how she was dragged to Billy Graham 's big tent revivals...remember those? Then she talked about her personal tragedy of losing a 6 yr old son and a year later her husband. She currently is a professor at Princeton in religions around the world...but a very interesting woman. Talk about conquering losses in one's life, a little son and husband a year later. Yikes... And then NPR did a lecture with Terry and Ram Dass who just recently died at 88....also interesting and I learned about Ram that I didn't know. I would never learn what I learn on NPR on the boob tube. I've been without it for a couple yrs now and what a relief. A young fellow in our bldg who helps me and is very spiritual and goes to India on retreats really struggles with today's nutty world..he's such a good old soul.

Just follow orders. There are many times in our lives when we "follow" the orders. Parents, bosses, even spouses in many lives... but there comes a time when a lot of that ends... We make it end.

Well said! When I was in my 20's I became involved with evangelicals. Joined their church and everything. Like most new things it always sounds and looks so good in the beginning. It's all wonderful until it's not. My last straw was when the good church people decided to have an exorcism in my honor. Who knew? It was very creepy, insulting, rude, scary. All these people yabbering, I mean speaking in tongues at the top of their lungs, gathered all around me touching me, I mean doing the "laying on of hands" thing while demanding, in the name of Jesus, that a demon, yes, I said demon, get out of me. Demon? Okay. That was a little too much for me. Over the top. Way, way over. I pushed them all away. I think that scared them a little bit. It felt good. I should have said, BOO! I told them I had NO demon inside. This is me. This is who I am. Back off. Oh, and take those planks out of your own eyes, please.
