Possible health risks
Most supplements are safe to take, but there are exceptions. For example:
High doses of beta carotene have been linked to a greater risk of lung cancer in smokers.
Extra calcium and vitamin D may increase the risk of kidney stones.
High doses of vitamin E may lead to stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.
Vitamin K can interfere with the anti-clotting effects of blood thinners.
Taking high amounts of vitamin B6 for a year or longer has been associated with nerve damage that can impair body movements (the symptoms often go away after the supplements are stopped).

Good info for new supplement takers to know, I'm not new at this...going on 30 yrs.
And as far as side effects, I've had enough with pharma drugs to make the big switch.

The only vitamin I take in addition to my senior men's multi-vitamin is C. I don't eat much fruit or veggies. I eat an apple each day, but don't eat any citrus, etc. So, for the past 10 years, I down 1000mg of C each morning. My doc and I have visited about that. He laughs and says the same thing you do. Yet, he says it won't hurt me. I just don't have colds. Maybe one every year or two. I have my annual physical tomorrow. My blood work from last week came back stellar! I plan to visit some more with the doc and maybe drop the C and at least one of my fish oil capsules. It may not hurt you but whatever your body isn't absorbing, you just pee it away in the sewer system. To me, that's like flushing good money down the toilet. Sounds like you'll breeze through your physical tomorrow since all your lab work was stellar! If people didn't pee and poop... a lot... I would not have had the career I did for 40 years. The more I can add to the system, I am keeping good people working!!!

Drifter: We'll just agree to disagree on our expensive pee. Didn't realize that I was discussing expensive pee with you and that we had to agree to disagree on the subject. I quoted 2old, not you, then made my comment to him.

I eat tons of fruit and veg so have no need for vitamin c pills. And if you take too big a dose it is true that you pee it out. Waste of money.

Oddly enough a large portion of manufacturers of vitamins ARE MADE by big pharma divisions.... the companies happen to be subsidized or wholly owned by major companies who then become suppliers of vitamin supplements in United States and overseas. Just because label “Happy Clown Vitamin Company no mean that Johnson and Johnson does not own them lock stock barrel

chinadoll, I didn't start with my supplements until after menopause when things really started to go south in my health. I was about early 50's and I get the impression you are probably not close to menopause yet, but I'm just guessing.
I don't use supplements made by the Johnson & Johnson type companies but choose quality companies who manufacture their own line of supplements. Millions use complimentary medicine which are supplements and so many other therapies and this is worldwide. I have been known to go to chinatown to buy some herbals.
So much naysaying!!!! Take care and happy to read of Rebecca's progress, that is wonderful and it's true the younger one is the faster the healing.
On a side note, thinking about my grandgirl who is soon 23 and out of 4 yrs at UCLA, is so determined to enter the holistic world of healing, she's studied in Bali and has yoga certification and I'd like to see her go on to become a naturopathic doctor but I don't know how much more schooling she wants to do. She's very oriented in holistic healing and herbals and homeopathy....so she knows and saw damage from pharma drugs in her dad and mom's lives...

Back in my very young youth, I heard it described by one individual as nothing more than "happy juice". Yea, one would be happier if they got a lift in their iron, low iron is a downer. And low iron would keep a person dragging. Since my daughter is using the HGH gel, the 20 some yrs of anemia is gone. She is a lot happier. Lots....

As chinadoll said, there is an inordinate amount of alcohol it the stuff. THAT'S why it makes a person 'feel good'.
It's just plain ol' "snake oil".
