www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-7443365/Why-gain-weight-older-Bodys-ability-remove-fat-fat-cells-slows-down.htmlthe body's ability to remove fat from where it's stored slows drastically as you age But now researchers claim to have finally discovered why you gain weight as you get older - even if your exercise routine or eating habits haven't changed. Scientists in Sweden and France tracked 54 adults over the course of 13 years and analysed their fat stores. They found as the volunteers aged, the rate at which fat from their fat cells was removed and stored slowed down. No kidding, people just can not eat the same amount as when they were younger. This is a very simple fact,
Not sure why people just do not seem to get it?

Not sure why people just do not seem to get it? Then why are there so many thin old people? At least there used to be. And why are there so many fat young and middle aged people? I doubt it's a very simple fact. Obesity used to be rare and now it's more than half. Yes older adults are fatter than younger, but that wasn't always true.

The Daily Mail is a UK rag nearly as bad as the National Enquirer in the US. I don't believe anything they publish.

They found as the volunteers aged, the rate at which fat from their fat cells was removed and stored slowed down. Yep, that's for sure! On the other hand, as you age you have to work 5 times harder to build up muscle tissue... Then why are there so many thin old people? ...because the fat old people die sooner, no joke.

Obesity is caused by the unnatural modern lifestyle. It is NOT caused by age. The longer you live, the longer you practice the modern lifestyle. People think whatever is happening around them at the moment must be normal. They forget to look at different times in the past. Look at old photographs and you will hardly ever see a fat person, young or old. Now days you hardly ever see a middle-aged person who is thin. Not where I live anyway. Maybe in wealthy areas.

Obesity is caused by the unnatural modern lifestyle. It is NOT caused by age. Absolutely correct, and just for the record, I was NOT suggesting that obesity was caused by age.

And you said it's much harder to build muscle. I think that is caused by a lifetime of being sedentary. Anyone who is physically active for their whole life will not lose muscle nearly as fast.

Anyone who is physically active for their whole life will not lose muscle nearly as fast I'm just going by personal experience. I have always been active, working blue collar jobs, but I see my body building efforts as taking ALOT more effort now, than when in my 30s.

Why it's harder to build muscle when olderI've done muscle work along with my cardio since I was 40, and it's a lot harder to build now. And it's not for lack of doing it.

I thought that our metabolism slowed down as we aged and we needed less food and calories every day. So what I ate at 30 would be a bit much now 32 years later? I have maintained the same weight since college a bit up and a bit down but all within about 5 lbs of what I was at 18 and a distance runner. I am more conscious of treats now and probably eat less cookies and crap.
