I don't understand why priests have to remain celibate.(and we all know by now that they don't do so.)
www.foxnews.com/opinion/jonathan-morris-my-decision-to-leave-the-catholic-priesthood"Last month I announced on my social media that, after taking some months of sabbatical to be with family and to dedicate more time to prayer and retreat, I had decided to ask the Holy Father, Pope Francis, to release me from the duties and responsibilities of the clerical state (priestly vows).
Taking that step was something I had considered often and at length in years past and discussed with my spiritual guides. While I loved and thrived in so many aspects of my ministry, deep in my interior I struggled for years with my vocation and with the commitments the Catholic priesthood demands, especially not being able to marry and have a family." This man did more for the world than he would have had he stayed in the priesthood. I own his book Imagine No Religion. The church lost me in my mid 30's or so. All religion lost me in mid 60's.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blase_BonpaneStubborn antiquated church telling us how to live and raise our families.....

I don't understand why priests have to remain celibate I read somewhere in the past that the early Catholic church banned marriage for priests in order to prevent heirs from pressing claims for church property. I can't confirm this and don't care that much, since I'm not Catholic.

Yes, that is true and it was a long time ago. But those priests still had women and children. It was just not official. Catholicism is the most paternalistic religion that I know about.
