Had my annual physical today. Blood tests on 12/21 so the doc could discuss them today. Our physician uses an on-line portal so patients can see their blood tests the day after they are taken. I had reviewed mine and was amazed how there was not a single "flag". Everything was well within the desired parameters.
After greetings with the doc, I mentioned it looked like my blood test were okay. "You reviewed them on-line?" "Yes!" "Well, we could have saved both of us some time by just texting instead of you coming in!" He went through breathing and listening and pushing here and there. Told me he had no recommendations than to just keep doing what I'm doing! Folks, that's pretty good news when you're 72 years old!!!!
Wife, OTOH, appears to be pre-diabetic. She's going to have to change diet and more!! We both retired 2 years ago. I have kept extremely busy with lots... LOTS of golf. I walk quite a bit... more before we lost our dog. I'm up before 5 a.m. every day and headed somewhere. Spent most of today... outside of the doctor appointment... fixing a chlorination system at the golf course. My wife has spent these past two years reading. She reads from 4 to 6 books/week. That means she has been pretty well sedentary from bed to recliner to kitchen. The poor blood test results did not surprise. Gonna take some work, but I think it scared her enough she will make an effort.
Years back when I was a smoker, people would tell me how bad it was for my health. Wife and kids kept asking me to quit. Until I decided myself to quit, nothing worked. I think this is sorta what we will deal with as my wife makes changes. I had casually mentioned the need for more exercise, etc. and those comments were sluffed off. Now, she may have decided HERSELF to make the needed changes and make it happen.
