We are not heading off to Queensland as planned ,as one of the home owners we were going to look after their cats and home for, was hit by a car and he’s got a broken leg so no fun going away on a overseas multi country trip with a leg in plaster , so now we will, head away about 6 th June ……..rent a unit at the Gold Coast for a couple of weeks then head further up the coast to Noosa for a couple of weeks ( sit) before taking our time coming home via Canberra for a couple of days stop over ……and maybe ….,just maybe I’ll get to see snow for the very first time in my life. Deep down I’m ….. celebrating ….the older I get the more I like being home in my own home now days At the moment I’m having endless trouble with my iPad which is only about 16 months old , it keeps freezing on me …then any text / pictures that’s on the screen at the time turn blue like I’ve highlighted it grrrrr……. Weird …. so I’ll make a point of phoning Apple support on Monday.

Dusty , I used to like driving. Spent many hours on the road over my career. Evidently, as retirement...and maybe old age...has set in, I've become happy with staying home. We have a trip planned in a couple weeks. Some long days on the road, some hotel nights, etc. Actually dreading it!! Looking forward to who we plan on visiting, but getting from Point "A" to Point "B" will be more of a challenge than what I used to think it would be. Guess if we get lost, we might end up at your home in Australia!!

Milly is a Jack Russell and as cute as. Belle our older Jack Russell is still getting used to her. I have tried to insert a photo but it isn't working. We had planned a big trip to Perth, Western Australia this year but we have ditched the idea. Just too far. We will be doing shorter trips from now on. My advise for what it is worth Dusty is don't do any house sitting that you don't want to do. We don't do the long days on the road anymore 2old. Having the caravan on the back means we can pull over whenever we want. The van is totally self contained so pulling off of the road isn't a problem. We are not scared to free camp along the way.

It’s so great to be totally independent joybelle , we did free camping for most of our two years in the van while while the land was being developed / house being built You and P enjoy as well Yep as far as I’m concerned 2old we’ve had our fun sitting , putting up with in rare cases use and abuse of the system ( like everything you get users and abusers of free services ) No we don’t get paid we do it all for nothing …. I could never post photos and Drifter gave good clear instructions but it would never work for me joybelle so I gave up trying , think it worked once for me but I had to make the photo so small it wasn’t clear and I tended to blame my finicky iPad for the issues

Well, back home about noon today. A little over 2,700 miles driven. Drove through 9 different states. Had good weather and a great time. Was certainly ready to be back home, though.
Lots of truck on the highways once you get east of St. Louis. Left lane quite often had trucks prohibited. That's where we made good time. Saw a lot of 85 to 90 mph sailing along with the folks in the left lane. Car averaged almost 30 mpg over the entire trip. Had great visits with kids, grandkids, great grandkids and friends.

Welcome back to the games 2old . So pleased you had a wonderful get together with family and friends. I know you were dreading the road trip, how did it go? The trip went well. Once east of St. Louis, truck traffic was heavy. But, most stayed in the right lanes so the left lane was open for auto traffic. We flew! I saw lots of upper 80 mph's on the speedometer. A couple 90 mph. Seemed the traffic was moving 15 mph above the posted speed everywhere. We stayed with them. Tried to keep the daily road hours down from what we used to do. And, stopped for restroom, etc. as needed. I think the longest day behind the wheel was a little over 7 hours. Used to be able to drive 10!! Lots of road construction. And, we went through the mountains going and coming back. Beautiful scenery, but I pretty well kept my eyes on the road. Averaged 29.5 mpg gas mileage over the entire trip. Averaged 61 mph and that was going through some large metro areas and the mountains. Three of the four hotels were great. The fourth, now so good...but was only for one night. Two nights at the daughter's. Good visits there. 4 nights at the son's. Hadn't been there in too long, due to the distance. Great time there. I have probably driven to or through 30 of the United States. Always planned out the drive with a road atlas/map. Knew where I was going and did. Never wanted to rely on some "machine" telling me where to go. :>) This was the first time we used a GPS. I downloaded Waze on my phone to give it a try. "Sarah", the voice on the GPS, was awesome!! She told us where cars were parked on shoulders ahead, where there were objects in the roadway, where police were ahead of us. She gave us plenty of warning which lane to be in and which way we would be turning so we could navigate easily through the cities. I think I found a new "girlfriend" in Sarah. And, my wife even approves!!! :>)

Good to hear you had a great time visiting loved ones and friends, and arrived home safe and sound 2old We have a Nissan Qashqai I believe it’s average is 7 Ltrs per 100 km on long trips, so close to 2 gallons per 100 km if I understand it correctly But of course my DH will say but yeah our cars only got a engine the size / power of some motor bikes

We are halfway to our destination being Queensland , however we decided to stop over in Canberra for an extra day due to nasty storms with very heavy rains …like 6 inches of rain on one day … …in New South Wales resulting in quite a few flooded roads / areas in our travel directions . Canbera has had 2 inches of rain , so the suns shining . DH sister lives in a coastal town 2 hours drive from NSW capital ( Sydney ) and they have had 5 inches of rain in one day Lucky they live in a hilly area. We wish they would share some of the rain with poor south Aust where we’ve barely had 1/4 in of rain since Christmas 🎄

River was the lowest it's been in two decades. About 6 weeks ago, it began raining. Now, we're ahead of the normal rainfall for the year. We have 2 sump pumps in our basement. Both have been running the past month. River is up. Can't keep up with grass mowing. Did some traveling over the past couple weeks. It's green from here to the East Coast. Beautiful trees and mountain landscapes.

I live in a cereal growing area 2old and the farmers are just about praying for rain ☔️, some have already sowed crops to the extremely dry soil hoping for rain . South Aust is the dryest state in Aust, and we usually get a summer thunder storm ( Dec to Feb is our summer ) but we sadly missed out durning summer so our rainwater tanks we use for watering veggie garden and fruit trees have been dry for ages .( We have mains water ) Hows things for farmers across the border joybelle have you had rain ? ☔️

We had a fair bit of rain over summer but then it stopped. We had 15 mms the other day and that was very much appreciated. The watertanks overflowed. We are very tight with the use of water and have a bore and dams for the stock and the garden. Some decent rain would be wonderful - bring it down Hughie.
