Anybody have experience using DMSO? I've heard of it being somewhat of a "wonder drug" for relief from joint pain/discomfort. I've also heard of potential risks, due to it being an efficient solvent, and bringing any
contaminants on the skin into your blood stream. More and more as I age, I'm having issues with Osteoarthritis, and don't want to be consuming NSAIDS to remedy the pain.
Anybody use?

I've tried it over the years, not a good match for my skin, the last couple of times I used it, my skin got too irritated felt like it was on fire. May be due to some of the medicines I take, since it does make other things you consume infuse into the system quicker and stronger. On top of which, I've not really felt much relief when using. But this is just me, I know others who swear by it and there's another product, Absorbine, I bought for myself and one for a friend I sent it to back in Jan. My friend couldn't stop praising the product, I still have both products which I bought in the same month this year, I'm going to be taking them both with me to give to here when I visit in Dec. Neither product did a thing to relieve my pain. I recently gave both another try to no avail. Now I have to find where I threw the Absorbine so I can pack it in my suitcase.

Oh yea, I read that the DMSO could affect medications being used, and dry out and irritate the skin. I had forgotten about Absorbine, it works pretty good, but makes you smell like Menthol. Doesn't last real long though. Amazon has a ton of DMSO products, I'm thinking of getting this one. If it doesn't work or I hate it, it can still be used like any industrial solvent.

The reason I bought the one I posted in my previous post is because it's a roll-on so I wouldn't have to get it on my hands like I did with a previous brand I tried several years ago I couldn't seem to avoid getting it on things I didn't mean to after rubbing it in my skin where I intended to. I tried gloves seems like it soaked through. I don't know I just didn't have good luck with the product.
Let me know how it ends up working out for you. As I said others I know seem to really like both products.

I'm full of osteoarthritis, throughout my spine and in various other places. I take Tylenol Arthritis pills when really needed. Another thing I use is the extra-strength heating cream Rub-A535, which gives some relief from aching arthritic joints as well as sore or stiff muscles.
I don't think I'd put a solvent on my skin, even if I weren't on several prescription medications.

Another thing I use is the extra-strength heating cream Rub-A535, which gives some relief from aching arthritic joints as well as sore or stiff muscles. I don't think I'd put a solvent on my skin, even if I weren't on several prescription medications. I won't even get into the list of medical ailments I have, but what you listed is part of it, Osteo and Rheumatoid and as I said much more. Most creams don't do a thing for me, but, I keep trying and I'm only supposed to use the OTC pain meds in the rarest of occasions, due to stomach issues. I will take them for when I have vacation trips or when my body completely seizes up and the pain is so that I can't move, not even to turn rom side to side without wanting to call 911 and it happens, just not as frequent because I don't push myself like I used to. All creams contain some type of solvents, that's how they absorb into the joints and muscles to releave the pain.. If you put rubbing alcohol, water on the skin you are applying a solvent. Many pharma use a form of dmso to manufacture their products. Problem is you can look up any drug and you will find positives and negatives, some drugs maybe the negatives outweigh the positives depending on one's conditions or mindset. Considering my options of not having much success with all the medical procedures, I've been through plus the prescription and various OTC drugs I've already tried, I was willing to give this drug a chance. Very few OTC things I haven't tried and discussed with docs as they told me keep doing the exercises and of course lose some more weight. Gee thanks on the weight thing. I am trying though, minus the lattes. Making the best out of the situation no matter, could be worse.

I'm trying to refrain from taking NSAIDs because #1 I've taken tons of Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs before I got the memo that they contribute to heart attack and stroke...the very 2 calamities I'm hoping to avoid.
Tylenol unfortunately does nothing for me. but at least it's safe for me, as long as I don't take more than 4000mg/day.
You know what does help....Xanax. I have a script for it, no longer have the extreme anxiety it was prescribed for, but it helps with this type of pain. Not completely, but it does take the 'edge' off it. I don't use it often, only when I'm at my wits end.
I have a hot compress that I heat in the microwave, that works really good, is fast relief for a little while.
I quit alcohol 12 years ago, so I don't know but maybe a "shot" now and then would help.

Oh yes Thomas, that was one of the other reason's my doctors want me to limit my use of OTC pain meds, that ole bugger the heart thing. But, even before I had issues with my blood pressure and the docs worrying about me possibly having a stroke if not careful, I had too many stomach esophageo issues to mess with the NSAIDs and other OTCs. But I'm really not complaining as I've surpassed my expected expiration date by a decade.

But I'm really not complaining as I've surpassed my expected expiration date by a decade. That's truly something to be thankful for. My mother passed at age 53 when I was 22....as I approached that age I have to admit I got a bit apprehensive. I'm hoping to reach my grandmother's age of 92....

My mom reached 49 all but one of my five siblings never reached 50. I'm 60, good enough, anything more to me is extra.

May you have a couple more extra decades. Thanks, I know you mean well. They say 60 is the new 40 so I probably should have said three more decades , which would will get you to 90. For me 80 is only 14 years away, so 90 sounds better! With the aches and pains I have now, I'm not real sure how great 90 is going to be...

With the aches and pains I have now, I'm not real sure how great 90 is going to be... You misunderstood, I appreciate you wishing me more decades, but I decline to see that as a plus. More years of pain and losing the ability to retain basic elimental learned skills from years gone be, to me is more like looking forward to my worst nightmares coming true. I'm not complaining about the now I'm making the best out of the situation, plus I've already lived one heck of a lifetime both good and bad, thinking back on mostly the good which keeps me smiling more than not. So I'm good if time is up sooner than later. The other day, at my doctor's visit, I told my doctor to dispence with the advice for making sure I have years ahead of me, all I want is to live with less pain. Of course after looking at me in utter disbelief, he found his voice again and said that his suggestions would benefit me in reducing the pain. LOL! Guess he felt like he had me there. I just wanted to smack his smug cute little face. Well at least he didn't recommend a psych eval. : )
