www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/robocall-epidemic-2018-how-bad-robocalls-are-what-you-can-n921206"According to YouMail, scams made up about 40 percent of the 4.4 billion robocalls placed to Americans in September.
Not all area codes are equal: Phone owners with a 404 area code (Atlanta) on average received 68 robocalls in September. That’s much higher than the next-worst area code, 202 in Washington, D.C., which got an average of 49 robocalls the same month."
(Looks like we can't do much about it.)

I hate those calls. Only way to get rid of them is to not own any type of phone!

I was able to stop the calls with an app for that, it has worked wonders. The app is called should I answer that, it's free.

I've been using something called nomorerobo which I think Bob posted a while back. It seems to be working, although I still get junk calls that aren't robocalls. I've been considering starting to string the person along as long as I can by acting semi-interested and then declining, that way wasting a bunch of their time in the hope that that would discourage them from calling again. But of course when I waste their time, I am also wasting my time.
And of course the junk mail never ceases. I have on occasion stuffed the prepaid envelopes they provide with the crap that they send me and mailed it back to them just to hassle them and cause them additional expense, but It's a pain to do that.

We rarely get calls on our landline any more. But on our mobiles we sometimes get the 'you were recently in an accident that wasn't your fault' scam. Lawyers I guess who hope they hit on someone it actually happened to .

I have blocked robocall numbers on my cell phone, but recently found out the callers just use a different number to call me. They are like a disease.

I agree, ruby, I average 3 or 4 a day on my land line...I have to take the phone off the hook when I take a nap...I do not answer if I don't recognize the number...another big gripe is all the spam in my email.

E-mail junk is another big problem. If you unsubscribe or block them, that triples them. I've decided to let them be. As of today I have 958 junk e-mails. Most are double or triple ones from the same place. Outlook claims that they will delete them after 10 days. I'll just wait and see what happens.

Since my junk email folder is separate from my regular mail, I don't pay it any mind except to delete the entire folder with on swipe of a button, never really notice it till I think to empty it. Anything I subscribe to if I unsubscribe and they keep sending, I relegate it to the spam folder and never have to really see it. I use both yahoo and occasionally outlook for an alternative account. Outlook is a little more annoying as you have to delete in bunches but since I don't use the account that often, I empty it about once a month which still only takes seconds for me to clear.

I use Thunderbird for e-mail. If you mark one incoming e-mail from a sender as junk, all the successive ones are also marked as junk. There is an option selection at the top of the page to "delete all mail marked as junk" and one click deletes it all. YAY!

I would hold on to your landline. I'm not just saying that because I am a phone company retiree. Lol. During hurricane Sandy many cell phones had no service because the towers were knocked out. But we still had our landlines.
On 9/11 too many cells being used disrupted cell service while landlines were working fine.
Besides, never put all your eggs in one basket.

When we moved to our new home we opted not to use a landline anymore. That doesn't stop the robo and scam calls from coming into my cell. One particularly annoying scam call spoofs numbers that appear to come from my same area code and mimics the first three digits of my cell. I spot them right away. Have blocked them at least a few dozen times. Always a different number. One of the latest calls of another type is a recorded message suggesting that I'm about to be arrested for something serious and that the police are on the way unless I call right away to resolve the issue. Never ends.

Up to 1256 junk e-mails in less than 2 weeks in Outlook mail. Waiting for them to dispose of them after 10 days as promised.
