...however the figures are probably exaggerated somewhat.... The bottom line in determining the body count after a disaster...is counting the bodies. How many are found in the streets, in the water, buried under debris is a general clue.
Quite frankly, I've never seen any arguments over "number of death" due to any disaster...the disaster authorities just counted the dead and shared the numbers, when asked by the media.
The difference now is that we have such phony, thin-skinned & defensive POTUS that denies/ refutes everything said about him...EXCEPT the nice, sugar coated reports from FOX...
During the Vietnam war the Pentagon encouraged field commanders to inflate the body count of the North Vietnamese soldiers, to show how "effective" the war effort was.
But, quibbling over numbers of dead in a natural disaster by the President is a new weak point, in public behavior.

Absolutely correct. This guy is what he is and most of us agree on that. I hate on him as much as the next guy,but not every breath he draws is wrong!

but not every breath he draws is wrong! I respectfully disagree, and wish that he would quit wasting taxpayers dollars, with every breath he takes...maybe he should just stop(breathing).

If you are a Puerto Rican official looking for federal dollars, worst case scenario is always better. Having worked for a State Government Agency for 31 years, I am very familiar with that game. And I must agree with both of you. Experience with governmental agencies tends to breed cynicism. The closer you get to absolute power the more deceitful and greed driven the culture appears to be. I firmly believe in bootstrap efforts as the first (and continuing) response to any disaster. Becoming too dependent on government makes one a slave to the system...better to remain independent as much as possible. The quarrel about Puerto Rico involves their citizens being U.S. citizens and not getting a normal response. I don't think the "Island" defense holds water. If Hawaii were hit by a monster storm, you can bet they'd get super fast reactions. That's the whole quarrel, the right wing you speak of is pure white...and very biased.
The pendulum swings back and forth."I live in the United States, a right wing extremist country. So that puts me in the far left." You're correct, we're right wing now, but that's about to change. I hope grassroots involvement permits victory in both House and Senate...I think that's feasible. If we can also come up with another enlightened and compassionate president in 2020, we can be moderates...and prevail.

just seeing him tossing paper towels to the citizens shows how unimportant he thought that they are.
