Why? Because some irrational and gullible people have allowed gun manufactures and the NRA to convince them that having a killing machine is patriotic and the BIG bad wolf is going to come and take yours away. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry can have a gun as long as they pay for it. Background checks don't do squat when deranged Tom kicks rational Dick in the face and steals Dicks gun. Do we have a plan B?
Before anybody pounces on me I'm not saying ALL gun owners are irrational or gullible. I'm saying if we honestly and truly believe this mass killing thing is because of mental illness, why not either get friggin' serious about helping all the crack pots out there, or take the guns out of circulation until we do.
It's time to either sh!t or get off the pot! But, we won't because there's another why? Money! Like Cyndi Lauper says, "money changes everything" and the Bible says, "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil." If mass killings aren't evil enough for us to come up with a reasonable and sane change, what will it take? Can someone please tell me?

You're absolutely right but change must come from Washington and money has the loudest voice there now.

I'm saying if we honestly and truly believe this mass killing thing is because of mental illness, why not either get friggin' serious about helping all the crack pots out there, or take the guns out of circulation until we do. This came from Newsweek:
"Every year, about 42.5 million American adults (or 18.2 percent of the total adult population in the United States) suffers from some mental illness, enduring conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, statistics reveal. The data, compiled by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), also indicate that approximately 9.3 million adults, or about 4 percent of those Americans ages 18 and up, experience “serious mental illness” – that is, their condition impedes day-to-day activities, such as going to work."
That's a potential 52 million adults who'd be immediately deprived of guns. Then there's those who've ever been treated for mental illness...of any kind. I couldn't find that number but my personal experiences and observations say it's huge. Pretty soon "all the crackpots" are under the thumb of our perfectly sane White House.
There have to be some restrictions:But I also consider the fact that our present ruling class denies global warming, builds more nuclear weapons, and exalts racism...so who's crazy?
