Back when my grandparents came over here there were jobs for uneducated people a plenty here. Those jobs are long gone when the steel mills and coal mines closed. A restaurant owner was telling us how hard it was to get into and live in Canada. You have to have a good job waiting for you. She had a green card but had to come back to the states every so often. She even owned a home there. At least she was doing this legally. I really do not know how I feel on the subject of Immagration. I feel bad for the immagrants and also for the people living in the states over run by illegal immagrants. NKat

Here in California, which has a shared border with Mexico we have a large Mexican-American and immigrant community. The illegal immigrants, or to use the official description:
"undocumented workers" keep a low profile and try to avoid trouble. The construction industry employs a large percentage of the immigrants in Southern California.
In agricultural areas the giant agribusiness growers employ large numbers of immigrant workers. Mexican immigrants come here to work and earn a better living for support of their families. The media would have you believe that areas in border states are "over run" by illegal immigrants like swarms of disease infected rats...it's not like that, at least not in California.

This country should accept the fact that they are needed in certain industries and make the path to coming here legally easier. We have encouraged them to come for years but closed our eyes to the fact that they are breaking the law by coming because it was economically profitable to do so.
Those eggs had to eventually hatch.

The slime in the WH and his cronies have managed to make hard working people who only want a better life look like the bad guys, while the FAT cats who own the corporations are the true evil ones.

The end of the bracero program in 1964 was the beginning of chaos in policy which spans the administrations of the last 10 presidencies.
When it comes to making meaningful policy that affects large numbers of people, it takes both a president and majority in Congress with conscience and courage to make it happen.
So far, there has not been that combination.

Warrigal ~ thanks for posting that Politico column. It is very well written and surprisingly sad that someone would talk publicly against his own nephew. I'm sure the nephew knew the article against him was coming.
We all have immigrants in our backgrounds except Native Americans. My father emigrated from Germany at age 18 and was the most patriotic American you could ever meet. He always wore a small American flag pin on his suit coat before politicians made it popular.

speaking for myself and Ziyi I am sure will support this. WE ARE IMMIGRANTS and if it wasn't for America, we wouldn't be in the positions and the possible careers that we have now. And Miller is not only a hypocrite but he is a nasty little weasel of a person. when I see him, even in the same room, makes me feel like I should run and take a shower!!
and ohhhhh does he seem to dislike me.... I am a department director and Mexican.... he always has that look "why are YOU here?" ¡¡El hijo de puta!!

Excellent article, Warrigal! Thanks for posting it.
Can anybody else see hate and wickedness on the faces of miller and trump? They creep me out. Their eyes are dead and their faces are evil and twisted. Is it me? Cicero said, "The face is a picture of the mind as the eyes are it's interpreter." I don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling looking at either one of them. It's more of a cold and Pr*ckly feeling.

Nor is it like that in Texas.... We take the strong back breaking work of these people and try to dehumanize them in return.
