Please note this is only the most recent example, from today's news. Before the last few years, nearly all the cases involved single mothers' live-in boyfriends, but there's been an increase in deaths caused by adoptive parents, foster parents, and even biological parents.
While child abuse has probably been around forever, I fully believe 'welfare reform' and its policies are making matters worse and worse- there are no longer any standards of fitness, 'lifestyle' is irrelevant, it's all about 'rights.' Where the * are CHILDREN'S rights?!
A teen father faces first – degree murder charges after police say he beat his eight – month – old daughter to death.

I've always believed that the greatest gift a parent can give their child is to choose the other parent with great care. Wise words but in my case I was too young to understand them. Fortunately I was very lucky and my husband is a good and decent man but when we married neither of us had been tested by life. Our greatest asset was our extended family that stood by us and were always there for us. They set the pattern for us which we have passed down the line to our children and grandchildren.
Regarding children at risk, more funds need to be available to child welfare department including home visits from professionals for situations where children might be neglected or abused. Too many children who are killed by family members have been on the welfare books but the organisation is too stretched to be able to assess the situation and intervene.
