Gallup: Fewer than ever 'extremely proud' to be American The new research found less than half of respondents (47 percent) answered they are "extremely proud" of their U.S. citizenship -- the lowest mark since Gallup began asking the question nearly two decades ago. I hard to be "extremely proud" of their U.S. citizenship when you are asking forgiveness for the Nutcase in the White House and his policies.

Pride to me is for something that I created or that I did that I thought was wonderful. Pride related to: gender, race or national origin is a rather empty pursuit, in my opinion. It's like being "proud" that it's Tuesday....

I agree TNT, that proud is a badly chosen word to describe my feelings as an Australian.
I sometimes feel lucky and grateful, or happy and thankful but there are times when I feel ashamed to announce that I am from Australia. This latter feeling is triggered by consciousness of our shameful treatment of asylum seekers and refugees who try to land on our shores in small boats.
With all her faults, I still love Australia and can become angry when our unique natural environment is sacrificed to profits for big business.

I don't know that I feel "proud" to be an American, but I'm certainly not "proud" of our country in its current political state. I'm more like embarrassed by much of what the country and the rest of the world see happening in the US these days.

I'm embarrassed.. and hoping that the world realizes that the majority of us are not Trump supporters..

I've been that way since Bush started beating the Iraq War Drums back in October of 2002.

I guess I am just thankful to be an American! I am not proud of what our country's administration is doing .

NKat Yes, glad to have been born in America actually I was born in Cuba, but that's another story. I fly the flag on nationalistic holidays, the flag is a symbol of hope and ideals that America continues to struggle towards. America is a 'work in progress', not near perfect but willing to go the distance to get there. Although it is discouraging to have a certifiable despot in the WH, we've had them before and I think this experience will make people-of-conscience stronger.
