I am old white a high school dropout with a GED and an AAS. I would be a Republican if they weren't such assholes. So I consistently vote Democrat.

Our "geezer" golf group is ALL old white men. Talking politics is banned. Yet, you get a pretty good feel of where people are based on comments and discussions in the 19th Hole. Retired school superintendent... Despises Trump and the GOP. Retired Army General and retired Lt. Colonel... Both are Republicans but both have no use for Trump. Retired clothing salesman... Their son is a Catholic priest. Very conservative, Republican, and probably voted for Trump. Are extremely disappointed in his morale character. Won't stop them from continuing to support the GOP agenda. Retired Army enlisted and retired Air Force enlisted... Both are strong Trump supporters. The retired Army man's wife home-schools their granddaughter. They feel the public school system is pro LGBT, is anti-gun, teaches climate change, etc. Trump is their hero. If anything at all is said about Trump, immediately it's "... but Obama" or "... but Clinton".
Our State is heavy rural, white, conservative, evangelical, and Republican. We did see some very well attended marches yesterday. The front-runner for the November gubernatorial election is Kobach. Hopefully, there are enough "closet Democrats" and simply sane people to not allow that to happen.

Some old people can deal with Social Change in the US, but many cannot and their being religious can make dealing with Social Change even more challenging.

Anything that challenges their version of religion is more often than not rejected

Anything that challenges their version of religion is more often than not rejected It does make learning the wonders of Science and wonders of life difficult. The mentally ill get an exorcism to get the devil out and nothing is learned. Some of what we do, has to do with how we evolved and survived. No evolution no understanding. The devil made me do it

I was not interested in politics and barely paid attention to what was going on until I hit my 40's. But even at age 20 and my first election - 1972 - I knew not to vote Republican. I guess it was in my genes because my dad was a lifelong democrat and even volunteered to help local candidates. My son, my brother and my nephew all volunteer to help democratic candidates.
My sister was republican until 2004 and switched to Democrat. One brother is totally different from the rest of my family - he's libertarian.

I've always voted Democrat, but I really started paying attention to politics in the last 15 or so years.
I'm sad to say I have too many relatives that vote republican.....they know where I stand so we don't discuss politics. The male relatives get their views from hunting buddies, coffee drinking buddies and/or Fox News, they meet at the local DQ and make fun of the liberals.....this is typical of most small Texas towns.... I think the religious thing factors in more with the female relatives. They are all good people that I love, I just try to keep my mouth shut (most of the time...hehe) and hope they wise up.

That's tough. My libertarian brother doesn't bring up politics much or keeps his mouth shut when the rest of us talk about it. But my husband who is lifelong Labour party can't resist starting things up with him. We don't see him often, so it's rare.
My sister who now votes Democrat is still conservative when it comes to social issues - so she is opposite from my liberal brother, his wife, their kids and my husband and I.
