I have two in my pond that are quit large and not as colorful as yours. Have the pond heater in now to keep a hole open in the ice to let the gases escape. The koi like to do a lot of chomping on my plants, I do give them canned peas. ChinaDoll any tips you can give me?

NKat , I wouldn't give them peas.... peas are no so good they full of starch and moisture and not good for digestion. Plus they tend to sink and will end up "lost" to the bottom and could begin to foul your pond water.... I know some people do feed peas to them but I don't.... In winter I feed them more wheat... like Cheerios cereal..... they love it... and will gobble it down every other day or so... slice a small grapefruit or orange in half or quarters and let them have a treat! . in the Spring I use Koi food for color which brings out the vibrant colors. In summer my pond is large enough to attract insects which they love.... Worms also good... they love worms! Freshwater Shrimp are also a favorite.... if you have two.... then easy to keep... no so many to manage....if you scroll my large picture to the right you will see feeding frenzy.... I had tossed some meal worm pellets in and they love them!!
you can toss Hyacinths leaves in...they seem to love them and will munch voraciously on the plants Mine will even eat canned fish!! Those sneaky cannibals!! But they do enjoy ripping apart small sardines and herring Just make sure not mustard packed... just those packed in Spring water....

Her fish are lovely but let me say... don't fall into the pond!! I did once.... hundreds of little mouths chewing on me.... I guess they thought I was some sort of Mexican Taco Treat!!!

Thanks ChinaDoll. Mine are not eating now, too cold. I do give the color enhanced koi food to them in the summer. Spring and fall food in the spring and fall. Use to have mystery snails but they ate those. Will have to give them oranges in the summer. I have given them koi treats. I also have goldfish in there. Will cut out the peas.
NKat
Will get some Hyacinths to put in this summer.
