I like to hug and be hugged but not by everyone. My spouse and I hug a lot. We are always hugging our cats. We both hug trees. Her family and mine like to hug and be hugged. My friends and hers like to hug. My spouse believes when you hug someone you give them some of your energy. I have to admit a genuine hug somehow does make me feel good. Maybe it's true. lol.
However, my spouse has a creepy old man relative in her family that spends most of his days on porn sites. How do I politely say this? He's a disgusting person. He also thinks the perv in the WH is the greatest president we've ever had. Guess what? He always wants to hug me. I know I don't have to but I kind of do, so I close my eyes, hug and run. And, try not to gag.

There are different kinds of hugs IMO... the full.. front on.. press the whole front of you against someone.. and the sort of off to the side bottom half held away.. kind of hug.. Am I wrong? Maybe I need a refresher course in hugging.. I don't want my body against anyone I'm not .... how can I put this delicately... intimately involved with.. and that would be my hubby...

"Am I wrong?" No! You are not wrong. You are right. There's the 'funny' uncle hug. Funny meaning pervert. You know the kind of uncle or friend of the family who gets his rocks off by touching you all over, even in places you know he should not be touching. When I was a little girl we had one of those in the family. We were told to never let one uncle tickle us even though that's the one thing he always wanted to do. Ick a lot.

What is interesting is that I enjoy professional massage.. It does not seem as personal.. yet there is a lot more touching involved. A psychiatrist would have a field day with me I guess. I know many people who say the idea of some stranger put their hands all over them sounds awful! I LOVE massages!! Getting one later this morning. I was not raised in a family that hugged a lot, although my parents hugged each other often. I grew up to become a hugger. I hug my siblings when I see them.

I agree QuickSilver that there are different types of hugs, some appropriate and some not. It depends on the circumstances and the relationship. Some hugs are only meant to be between intimate partners.
When I hug my son and grandson, it is usually facing each other, but never with full body contact. Our hugs involve the arms, shoulders, and heads, while standing about a foot apart and leaning in for the upper-body hug. Occasionally, my grandson will give me a sideways hug, and that's fine with me too.
