Is anyone else a horrible sleeper? I've always been a very light sleeper but I at least slept. Now I toss and turn.. when I finally fall asleep, I wake up usually about 2 or 3 am and go to the bathroom.. Then I have a dickens of a time going back to sleep, inventing problems in my mind.. even if there are none. Since we turned our clocks back last week.. I am unable to sleep past 5am.. I would just like to get 7 or 8 hours of unbroken sleep.. I know I would feel much better.

QuickSilver, I've been plagued with insomnia for years, and it is frustrating. I have the same pattern as you of waking up an hour or so after falling asleep. It can take a while to get back to sleep, and I'll often awake again before morning. This leaves me tired and needing a nap later in the day. I never had this problem until around the time of menopause.
I use Melatonin, which helps me fall asleep but doesn't keep me asleep through the night. I have Zopiclone (a prescription sleeping pill) which I rarely use because it can be addictive and makes me groggy next day.

A healthy alternative to drugs might be found in Chinese traditional medicine... One of the most effective methods is acupuncture. It really does work very well. There are also many traditional Chinese herbs which promote good sleep. chamomile flower tea with licorice is one method. If you not like tea then they also come in capsules which can be found in health food stores. Other herbs very effective but you would need to see Chinese medical practitioner for them... Try the chamomile flower/licorice tea if you not wish to use acupuncture..... very effective

QuickSilver, Yes, I had insomnia for years and years. Well 10 years to be exact. I thought I had it longer but I don't recall how I slept before. Part of the issue I had was inconsistent sleep times. I worked as a part time security officer and was always filling in on odd shifts. I could have 4 different shifts in one week ranging from all nighters to a shift with an 8 hour break and then a 12 hr shift. My husband's stroke forced me to quit that job and stay home to take care of him. After 6 months of going to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time, I have found that I actually sleep well and feel good. I still wake up at night often, but sleeping as we ... or I get older tends to be a varied thing. I know my husband says it takes him a while to fall asleep. 3 hrs of uninterrupted sleep is a good thing for me. However, I realize that I do this and just stare out the window at the sky and go back to sleep. If it doesn't come, I get up and do something. You must have a lot on your mind if you are thinking up things. I used to do that too. Oddly now, I don't very often.

Yes... lot's on my mind the last year.. Hubby's cancer surgery... deciding to retire... selling our 2nd home...some family issues... Those are for the most part resolved now... but still doesn't stop me from building my mountains our to molehills at 3Am.. Why do things that are really trivial at 3PM become insurmountable problems just 12 hours later at 3AM?

Those are for the most part resolved now... but still doesn't stop me from building my mountains our to molehills at 3Am.. Why do things that are really trivial at 3PM become insurmountable problems just 12 hours later at 3AM? Yes! When my hubby was going through his cancer treatments and I was juggling work, family issues, and ... well... I did the same. It is how our bodies and mind seem to hate us by bringing crap up in the middle of the night. I'd often get up and have to stay up. Now things have settled down a bit and after the past two years I've adopted a way of relaxing and chilling out that works for me. I don't have those mountains looming over me at the moment. I sure hope you can get some rest!

I don't sleep that well anymore either. I have "old Mans Prostate" which means I have to get up at least once during the night to go to the bathroom. I'd say 5-6 hours is about all I average. Not like the good old days when I was a kid. I could really bag some Z's back then. On days that I didn't have school, sleeping past noon was no problemo. When I was about 11 I missed a football game that I wanted to watch on TV because I slept in till five afternoon.

Why do things that are really trivial at 3PM become insurmountable problems just 12 hours later at 3AM? I know what you mean. Can't solving the World's problems WAIT at least until 8 A.M., or until I get the first cup of coffee sipped???

I'm a horrible sleeper also. I'll fall asleep in my recliner while watching TV. Out like a light for maybe an hour. Then I wake up because I have to pee and it's downhill from there. As soon as I get in that bed my thoughts are off and running. I worry about everything. I have to admit I've never worried about a maniac in the WH until now. Never!
With all the stresses of everyday life like loved one's being sick or injured, broken appliances, sick pets, my spouses health as well as my own, money worries, dreading Winter blizzards, and all the other life issues we deal with, who the hell needs to even think about a lunatic with the nuclear codes?
This moron and his band of thugs has me sleeping with one eye open all night long.
