Mr. Morris is now 13 yrs old. This was the beginning of the summer before his eyesight got worse. He has had episodes where he goes off and seems a bit lost. However he still wishes to hike. He is pooped for a day or so afterwards, but always is willing to go for a ride or have someone carry him on a hike when he is tired. We are steeling our hearts because he is slowly fading away from us. He plays once in a great while but now spends most of the day sleeping and NOT nagging me! The vet says he probably has an onset of diabetes among other issues. My vet is an old country doc. I will do what I can with him to continue to make Morris comfortable and safe but we won't prolong any suffering. Morris has no idea he is aged. He entertains us now by growling at flower pots that get moved. He is sure they are invaders until he walks stiff legged up to them. Then he will pee on the pot and walk away as if nothing ever happened. When I hike the woods with him, he wears a bell so I can keep track of him. What a strong character he is. He and I are making out his bucket list. Lots of rides on back roads sniffing the air... We will do some mule rides together this fall and perhaps some other fun things. I am preparing my heart for the day he won't be with us. sigh...

awwwww.... I have enjoyed so much over the years hearing about Mr. Morris... he is cutie!! I am glad you are able to give him his bucket list! I really hope he continues to enjoy his romps in the woods despite being elderly... he is such a character! Please give a little squeeze from me... Pets become family members.... no matter the size.... it is the heart that counts...Scamper our horse is like a big dog the way he follows Maria around the paddock... it always makes me smile and glad that I bought him and added him to our family....
