LOL I guess I'm the grandmother of the forum then - at 80. I have been married 3 times to totally inappropriate men (family thing; my maternal grandmother - 5 times and my paternal grandmother - twice that I know of) After the 3rd divorce, I decided my "picker" was so damaged it was best to forget about marriages and I have been single since 1987. As for interests, I could best be described as a "jack of all trades; master of none". I was an art major in high school, but decided I wasn't good enough to make a living at it so went into nursing on 3 scholarships to Syracuse University. Had my oldest son 3 years into their BSN program. Dropped out for 12 years, then went back to nursing school at Sacramento State College realizing that if I ended this 2nd marriage, I needed to be able to earn a living. Smartest thing I ever did! He was an alcoholic - stayed another five years - I got him into treatment, but we were more incompatible than ever. I wasn't the submissive, adoring little wife he wanted and he wasn't the caring, affectionate, loving husband I wanted (he was rather cold and matter of fact both in and out of the sack) As for interests, I was into sewing, crocheting, knitting and tatting when a stay at home wife. Made all the kids clothes when they were younger - many of mine also. Raised rabbits for show (in our garage)and also raised Yorkshire Terriers. Our house became the local ASPCA for abandoned and sick animals in our neighborhood. I also got into preserving all kinds of foods as well as making my own beer and wine, sauerkraut, and mincemeat, etc. After I graduated from nursing school, I took a job at the VA here in Vancouver mistakenly thinking they had an ICU (it was at the one over in Portland ) Stayed there 6 months until I could get a job in the local hospital. Had to start in pediatrics, but once I had some experience under my belt was able to transfer into their ICU. Worked in critical care for 8 years, general duty for 6 years and corrections health for 6 years. My last two years in Corrections health was at the juvenile facility. I loved working with the kids. I retired in '02 at almost 66. Never been bored. In the meantime Bill brought the kids up after I had the job and we bought property on acreage and I was able to finally have the horses I'd always craved since knee high to the proverbial grasshopper - 2 Arabs and 2 Morgans. Unfortunately, that ended when we divorced. During my 3rd marriage, I took up motorcycling and have just recently given up my beloved bikes. I traveled all over the U.S. and Canada solo and with groups. Also Scotland, Ireland, Spain, China and Japan. (I'm looking at E Bikes now) After my 3rd divorce I took up horseback riding again and took horseback riding tours of Ireland, Hungry and Spain (got to see the Andalusians in the Spanish Riding School perform - in the Spanish Riding School - a real thrill for a horse lover) In that time period I also took up TaeKwando and worked myself up to a second degree black belt. Unfortunately when the economic shan hit the fit in '07, the dojang went bankrupt (he'd unwisely opened up another dojang and couldn't keep both going). It took me several years to find another that I liked. In the mean time, I had a second cancer surgery - the first was lung cancer in 1992; this was ovarian. After I recovered fromthe surgery and the chemo (and got my hair back LOL) I went looking in earnest for another dojang and found a really great one and have now made it to 3rd degree black belt. At the time of the 2nd divorce we sold our house for a big enough profit that after we split the profit, I was able to buy the house I now live in. Being a home owner required a whole new set of skills. - amateur plumber, gardener , horticulturist and electrician. I got into woodworking and even made some of my own furniture- I'm still using the coffee and 2 end tables. I had four children. A boy, then twins (one of each) and a daughter. The youngest daughter was the only one still at home when I moved in here; She left for several years had a son, divorced and then moved back in. The son is now an adult - moved out for several years, had a son - separated from S/O and has moved back in with his son - so now there are 4 generations here. In addition to these, I have three more grandchildren in California plus 2 great grandchildren. Last but not least I've been an avid video game player since the days of the Atari 2600 Hope I haven bored you all with this lengthy history - hard to cram 80 years into a few short paragraphs :)

Can I just say that, as a young adult, it's super fascinating for me to read about older people's lives? And I mean that with the utmost respect. Seeing how much you've all lived and experienced is inspiring, and I can only hope to accomplish as many things so that I can share them with you all as well in the future.
Thank you all so much for humoring my thread, and being open about your lives, it's been amazing so far!!

I didn't pick the right husband until I was 47. The first one that I married at 18 did give me my two sons, so he wasn't totally useless. I have no excuse for marrying the second one. Stupidity. As for E bikes, we bought some nearly 3 years ago and love them!! Since we live in Scotland it is very hilly so the Ebike means we can go anywhere and get up any hill no matter how steep. We never have to walk them up a hill. Ours are pedal assisted Kalkhoff (German made) and the battery holds a charge up to 70+ miles, so we do day trips for 40-50 miles each.

When I was young I loved to sit and listen to my grandmother and her two sisters chat about when they were young. It's funny how when you are young you think 65 or 70 is really old but when you get there you still feel young or at least just middle aged.

Hubby #1 who I married at age 18 was a serial womanizer and liar.. We had two sons when I divorced him in 1979. My hubby #2 was a nasty person who enjoyed teasing and being a particularly annoying pain in the a$$. He died in 2002. I met my present husband online in 2003 and we were married that same year. I have never had a moment's regret as he is a wonderful man and a great companion. Guess the third time was a charm for me.

I saw this thread today and thought I would "revive" it.
I am 41. I'm married with 2 daughters who are 16 & 19.
I am vegeterian. I was never really big on meat... always loved fruits & veggies, but "officially" became vegeterian about 7 years ago.
I am pagan. I grew up in a somewhat strict southern baptist home with my mother, while my paternal grandmother was Cherokee & I guess I just took more to the elements of that type of belief system. It just always seemed more natural to me.
I own several businesses: A wedding venue, a dj company, I have an online store, & I'm a photographer.
I am adventurous, love nature, read a lot, have a degree in healthcare management (which I worked in for years, but quit to homeschool my daughters), like playing video games, am good with computers, was raised on martial arts, & was a gymnast for 10 years.
Now you know a little more about me.Any further questions, feel free to ask.

I turned 84 this month. Because of a hip injury that just wouldn't go away, I had to give up my TaeKwondo (I was working on my 4th degree Black Belt). Having to give up martial arts, I turned to fine arts. I now take Banjo and Violin lessons. Also taking a writing class and have recovered enough from hip injury to take TaiChi this coming month. All by Zoom. :)

74. Born and raised on a dirt farm in Kansas. Couldn't wait to get off the farm!! Lived in Kansas our entire 74 years. Married to the love of my life at 19 years old. She had just turned 19. Back then, girls were "of age" at 18. Boys weren't until 21. Had to get my parents' signature before the State would issue a marriage license. Married 54 years this past September. Three kids... two girls and a boy. Eight grandkids. Kids have all seemed to live successful lives. All still on their first marriages. The two girls are almost at 25 years with their spouses. Spent most of my career in construction/engineering. Worked until 70. Loved what I did. Was on the road those last 15 years. Over 2,000 nights in hotels. Being gone that much, the wife and I had to learn to live together... full time... once we both retired. She found the easiest way to live with me was to not. Kick me out of the house each morning to play golf and give her some alone time!!! Works for me. Only two vices... Golf and coffee. Over 200 rounds of golf in 2020. Elected to second 3-year term on the golf club's Board of Directors. Just took on a new $400,000 maintenance center building for the course. Acting as Project Manager for that. So... staying busy. Health wise, both wife and I in very good health. She has touched on some diabetes, but keeps it well under control with diet. Over the years, I've had a few broken bones... a knee replacement... quite a few kidney stones... but nothing that really has slowed me down. Have thoroughly enjoyed my time on TRF!!! Seems to be a great "family" of good people. As the regulars here have found, I can be quite "wordy" with my typing fingers. Forum Games has occupied many hours in an attempt to keep the mind exercising. Hope you all have a safe and wonderful 2021!!!

I was looking through the rest of the forum as I normally only play games ......however there is such allot of rubbish on TV that just doesn’t hold my interest ,so I started reading this thread with great interest .
I’m a Aussie , I live in South Australia about 170 km from the nearest city of Adelaide ,however I was born and raised in New South Wales about 500 km from where I now live . I’m married with 5 adult children .....however none of the children are my husbands whom I’ve been married to almost 34 years ...I’d been single for many years before meeting my second husband I’d decided I wouldn’t get involved with anyone till the children grew up ,my youngest was 13 when I met hubby .
I’ve just turned 75 in feb ,we enjoy keeping as fit and active, as possible , part of that involves our hobby of ballroom dancing with is a big part of our social life as well ......however almost a month ago hubby slipped on his shed floor while ducking in and out of the shed and washing out a water filtration system under the rainwater tap by the shed before putting new filters in it ( it’s a under sink system in the kitchen ) anyway he slipped and broke his hip ,so now he is in recovery from a complete hip replacement ....I’m sure we will get back to our hobby of dancing by Easter as he’s doing well he’s 74
We are in Mid summer here so that means our many fruit trees we have growing have produced lots of fruit and kept me real busy trying to preserve ( bottle ) allot of peaches / apricots / apples / plums , our home takes up most of the block of land however I still found room to plant a few fruit trees when we had this home built
We lived in a suburb of Adelaide while working ,we decided we’d sell our home there in 2004 ,after we sold that home we traveled around Australia with our caravan for 2 years eventually returning to SA after this home was finished being built in 2006.
We live fairly close to a nice quiet Bay ( beach ) Area the whole area is being considered to be placed on the world heritage list due to the early settlers who came from Cornwall to work in the then copper mines in the area ,the mines ceased over 100 years ago however allot of the buildings / mine sites / schools / churches are still in original condition all built from local limestone . Most of the areas income comes from tourism as well as sheep and cereal growing / farming . We get many 100s of visitors a year coming here to trace family histories as the area holds allot of information of who worked in the mines / who attended schools / ect in the area
