I know you all already probably know each other by now, at least a little bit, but I thought it'd be a neat idea to have a thread were we would talk about ourselves a bit more in depth!! You all seem super nice and I would just love to learn more about everyone here 💜 I've already introduced myself a bit more on my blog, which you can read here [ x ] !! But something I forgot to mention is that I'm Latino and from Puerto Rico~ My first language is Spanish as well. And I think I'm comfortable enough to say I'm also part of the LGBTQ+ community as well, as I am transgender... I was a little reluctant to say so at first, for reasons I think are obvious, but you've all shown to be super sweet and supportive, so I thought it'd be okay !! But anyways, those of you who are comfortable with it-- I'd love to know all about you~ Looking forward to reading!!

Good thread..
Not much interesting about me. I'm 68 and a registered nurse by trade. I am married I have two grown sons ages 46 and 44.. and three grandchildren ages 14, 12 and 6.
I have been grappling with the idea of retiring for the last 3 years, but just haven't been able to bring myself to do it. I will however be going to a part time basis next month.. but not sure how long.. I see it as a way to transition from 40 years of working to the life of leisure, although most of my friends claim they are busier in retirement than when they were working.
Right now I'm looking for things that I would like to do with all my free time.

I am Rebecca... hummmmm let's see.... I was born and raised in México, in Playa Del Carmen which makes me of strong Mayan ancestry .. I am a divorced mom of 2 beautiful girls 7 and 13 soon to be 8 and 14 I work for an "Alphabet Agency" for the Federal Government, an agency of the Intelligence Community as a clinical psychologist and department director over 85 wonderful people, both military and civilian... Most of my work is classified but from time to time I'll share a little bit about my travels and such....when I can! I love to party with my friends on the beaches in the West Indies, México and other wonderful beaches of the world. I love the ocean...being raised by the Caribbean Sea I too am a member of the LGBTQ+ community as I am bisexual I am in a long term relationship with a wonderful woman... her name is Ziyi and she is Chinese from Taiwan. She is also a clinical psychologist and owns her own practice group with 3 other psychologists who work for her. She is a "second Momma" to my kids...and I wouldn't know what to do without her...I met her we were both in graduate school and became good friends and when my marriage fell apart, she was there for me and we became partners...My Ex was Army Intelligence (the perfect oxymoron !!) ... and a hero from the campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq but the "hero" never honored his marriage... he constantly cheated with a multitude of women and was physically and mentally abusive.... finally I had enough of the adultery and his lies and beatings and divorced him... He was my inspiration to learn to kickbox!!! Let's see.... weird things.... Oh.... I jump out of perfectly functioning aircraft!! hahah I participate with the Army Airborne and the Marines on joint exercises and have done a massive amount of jumps... and I am one of several jumpmasters for the trainees for our agency... I have done HALO jumps from 36,000 ft!! That is like touching Heaven! And finally.... I am a Rugger.... I play Scrum Half for our agency's women's rugby team, The Sly Devils Rugby Football Club...
two of my senior staff members are also on the team.... my medical director who is an Australian psychiatrist and a great Fly Half and my Chief of Logistics who happens to be an Army officer from Ireland is our Right Wing.....
and of course.... I love Tequila!! ¡Ay ay yi yi yi! Doingmanyshots
...........My friends all call me Mousie....

Good thread. So, a bit about me. I'm in my early 60s, have been married to my college sweetheart for what will be 40 years later this summer. We have a grown son who lives in England with our two young grandchildren (we are Grandpa and Grandma to them), whom we miss tremendously. We see them on FaceTime video chats and our grandson is now old enough to have a good conversation with us.
My entire professional career was spent working for two large legal firms as a finance manager and I "retired" last year, but now work for my former firm on a part time basis (from home). I'm finding it nice to have a limited schedule so I can keep in touch with my former colleagues and earn a few extra dollars.
We're planning a move, our first since we bought our house over 30 years ago. In fact, I'm mailing the deposit today.
My passion is my photography, if you haven't guessed from all the photos I posted in a different thread.

Security Officer but I can't go into the details on the internet. That is a no-no for me. I hope to retire at the end of this fall. I am so done with crazy shift work as I am part time. I am going to be 62, married to a veteran with mental health and physical disabilities from the Vietnam War. We've been through the mill together and have been married for 21 years. We both came from previous marriages with kids but they were grown up when we met.
We have a small farm and raise Dexter Cattle and mules/donkeys/horses. I love photography and riding. I also am a crazy avid hiker. I hike our hills and woodlands. I guess that goes hand in hand with my photography.
I train dogs, donkeys, and mules. I also have recently been selling some of my photography and booked a wedding.
I've got 5 grand kids. 3 belong to my youngest son. Two belong to my stepdaughter.
That's it. I am adventurous.

Good Thread!
Well, I don't think of myself as particularly interesting. I'm 73 years old, divorced for many years. I have a son who is 49 and a grandson who is 18, and I am very close to them. I am independent by nature, live alone, and am fine with it (prefer it, actually). I'm Canadian, born and raised in the same mid-sized city that I still live in. I'm long retired from a lengthy career as an employee of Canada's Federal Government.
I am quite shy in the 'real world' which is one reason I feel more socially comfortable in a forum such as this. I grew up in a family with 3 other siblings (2 boys and 1 girl), a mean alcoholic father and a passive codependent mother. My parents, sister, and one brother are all deceased now. There was another sister called Marilyn, born before I came along, who died at 13 months from a massive seizure probably caused by undiagnosed spinal meningitis. There was a bizarre element in my childhood: Paternal grandparents who were active Jehovah's Witnesses and tried to indoctrinate we children into what I consider a cult, but we all totally rejected it.
I've never been a 'sporty' kind of person, participation-wise or watching, although I do enjoy watching competitive figure skating. I've always been an avid reader, and continually have a book on the go. I'm a big movie buff (an interest I share with my son and grandson). A love of music has been part of my life as well. As a young woman, I played guitar (not very well) and sang a bit locally (at a few events and in a coffee house) - when I married and became a mother, that got left behind. For several years I was into hand-building pottery but eventually had to give it up when there was no longer a place I could easily get to for firing my 'creations' in a kiln. I was disappointed.
I have health issues that would probably bore most readers. I've blogged about them elsewhere: takerefuge.freeforums.net/thread/926/medical. They keep me less active than I'd like, but I deal with them and still enjoy life.
To sum up my personality in three words, I'd say I'm shy, intelligent, kind.

Well, I feel rather dull after ready some of your post...anyway I'm a 75 year old widow that lives in a rural area of Northeast Texas. I have two children and seven grands. I've been retired for several years....most of those working years were spent in family businesses. I like to work in my yard, movies and reading. I've traveled a lot but have slowed down in recent years. I spend a lot of time helping my 97 year old mother, she still lives alone.
Oh.. I enjoy the internet and keeping up with politics which has been very entertaining lately.

Not much to tell about me. I'm 49 years old. A December baby of 1967 born in the dead of winter in northern Vermont. Have 3 sisters, all older. We all hate winter, but only one had the brains to move to California. Been married and divorced twice,,, no kids, but had 3 little nieces to love,, 2 of which I tought to ride bikes on 2 wheels. I like camping, hiking, though I haven't been in years, loved fishing, but haven't done in years. I've had many types of jobs,, never having a career type, other than something I really enjoyed, but was pushed out of by someone who had a paper saying they were smarter than me. Fast forward years, then the economy tanked, and emplyers could pick the cream of the crop,, I found myself long term unemplyed,,, but the stars alighned just right at the time, as I free to care for my failing dad on a daily basis who had Alzheimer's.
I took a personality quiz, one of those just for fun,, but discovered something I already knew. I am thoughtful and compassionate. I;ll put others before myself.

I feel like I'm the child of the forum though, LOL at only 23 years old, and everyone else being 40+. rebecca2013 It makes me super happy to know I'm not the only LGBTQ+ person here c: Specially someone of the Latinx family, lol. I'm glad you got away from that abusive relationship too, and that you found someone who treated you right 💜💜💜

I'm glad you got away from that abusive relationship too, and that you found someone who treated you right 💜💜💜 Gracias Mac ✌ Yes he is gone although several times he caused a lot of heartache for me... but with the kind assistance of my dear friend "Two Stars" he found out the hard way that my bite is much worse than my bark!!! *biteme And he can't argue with a Major General!!! He has been transferred over to the other side of the world along with his puta wife, a CNN reporter who was the "straw that broke the camel's back for me"...which isn't really far enough but I couldn't get him booked passage on the International Space Station!! hahah and SURPRISE!!! I am 35.... will be 36 in July... so I also am sort of a youngster here too!! Ziyi is more than just my girlfriend... she was really a close and dear friend (That my ex- husband actually hated.... he was somewhat of a bigot about Chinese people) and she sacrificed any associations with me while I was posted to the D.C. area because she didn't want to cause any issues.... I happened to meet her on the streets one day and well I couldn't just let her go without trying to reform our friendship.... well the funny part.... I never really knew she was lesbian!!!.... until she told me that day. She said she was going for broke and said she always had this gigantic crush on me in graduate school! Well my marriage by then was on the rocks...we were separated... I had no idea we would become..... intimate but I am glad we did... I have never regretted "coming out of the closet" However she was somewhat shocked at what she HAD to go through to be with me...haha you just got to love Uncle Sam!! but she in turn... never regretted one moment of the aggravation nor the intrusion it made for her in her life.... And I adore Chinese food (real Chinese) and she is an excellent chef!!!!

We are a bit nutty too. Okay, at least I am.

My life has been relatively uneventful. I'm 62 with two adult children and I'm an Aussie who lives 75kn north of Sydney. I separated from my husband of 30 years in 2008. My 31 year old son is Autistic and I'm his full time carer. My 29 year old daughter married her high school boyfriend and they now live in New York.
I worked for many years in banking then left to run a construction firm with my ex. I also worked for a few years as a Disability Support Officer at a University and local High Schools and Trade Schools.........best job ever.
I love Rugby League, reading, internet, talking and socialising with family and good friends which usually involves wine. Oh and cruising....going on my second cruise on 30th March.....off to the South Pacific for 10 days.
That's me.
