In brief, I cannot use my regular PC- the monitor seems to work, the PC tower itself seems to work, but they don't 'connect.' PC fan runs, power lights go on. Monitor's logo flashes on screen periodically. But it's like the two components won't connect.
I've read a lot about 'black screen' following Windows10 updates, and do believe this has been the cause. However, none of the 'fixes' I've read and tried have done any good.
I'm not 100% clear on time-frame, as I'm overly-exhausted and stressed-out over this (mostly losing work time) but I think it started around the beginning of October. For the longest time, though, numerous attempts to get it started worked in all but two instances; but this month it took three days the first time and current instance I've been trying for nearly a week with no success.
I've been using a very old laptop that won't access much, but really need to get my PC working.
Would anyone here have knowledge about the cause, and/or how to fix it?

p.s. there's nothing wrong with the cable that connects the two components, and it's securely connected on both ends.
