Has anybody else noticed how screaming and hollering has replaced applause on tv shows? I'm talking LOUD and long screeching and screaming. VERY LOUD!
I'm a senior citizen now. Perhaps it's Karma because I would blast the radio in my 66 Mustang when I was younger, much younger. Lol.
Game shows, talk shows, Oprah like shows, the audience doesn't clap anymore. They screech and scream.
Years ago we went to the Phil Donahue show. Many years ago. Lol. We didn't scream and yell we appaulded.
I know things are different now but does the screaming and screeching bother anybody else?
I have the remote on a table next to me so I can mute the noise. I use it all the time.

Yes, I've noticed that too. Especially with some musical artists. It's like listening to nails on a chalkboard. I don't mute the channel, just find something else to watch.

Duh! That's a very good idea. I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Friday evening went to see Michael Buble and there was screaming along with clapping. I guess, I never paid attention to it.

I've also noticed this trend toward screaming and yelling; it gets on my last nerve! On tv shows, I often mute the sound, just like I do during commercials. Like you birdgal , in my day there was just clapping and cheering at appropriate times, and not during songs. The last concert I attended some years ago, with my son, was to see INXS - unfortunately not with the deceased original singer, but still a great band with great songs. There was a very large man sitting one seat over from me in the row immediately behind us, who let out frequent and extended yells in his booming voice which was loud enough to deafen a person, often in the midst of songs. The audience was loaded with shouters/screamers. As if that weren't enough, a woman to my left in the row in front of me screamed, but also frequently stood/'danced', completely blocking our view of the stage. All this rudeness took much from the enjoyment of the evening; I went home frustrated and exhausted. Haven't gone to a concert since.

That is a shame. Cindy Lauper was the last concert we attended. It was at an outside theater on Jones Beach here on Long Island.
The audience was mostly adults and they behaved like adults.
However I was a bit ticked off when a security guard took my bottle of water, poured it on the ground and handed me back the empty bottle. WTH?
I had to buy a small bottle of water at their concession stand for only 5 dollars or something like that. That was the last time we went to a concert at Jones Beach.
Formerlyme, people can be so rude, crude, and indifferent these days and it's not just young people. Anything goes. I guess that's what happens when the ME generation grows up.
