No one wants to, but that's how it is. Most people are healthier when young, and health declines with age.
But A LOT of that decline is from being exposed to an unnatural environment and lifestyle. Some of it is just the inevitable and natural result of age, but a lot of it is not.
Most modern people feel worse as they get older. They have more pains and stiffness, and less energy. Their doctor tells them this is natural, just get used to it.
But people like me will tell you otherwise. I am 67 and have done yoga most of my life, and have been walking every day. I am not stiff, and I have less pain and more energy than I used to.
I am exposed to all the same toxic stuff as everyone else. We can't avoid that. But yoga helps so much.
I often tell people about yoga but I can tell they don't believe me and won't take my advice.
Yoga has given me awareness of my muscles, and muscles are a big factor in determining health vs disease.
Mainstream medical doctors don't think about this. They don't learn about this in school. Chiropractors are more likely to know about it, and osteopaths (D.O.s).
I wish I could convince people to stretch every day. And to walk. I walk at least one hour every day, but 2 hours is much better. 3 hours might be even better, but that wouldn't leave enough time for everything else.

I get a minimum of 10,000 steps/day. Many days it's closer to 20,000. Most of those come from my early morning rounds of golf. And... playing 18 holes of golf stretches a variety of muscles.
When I retired, swore I would not sit in a recliner all day. So far... I've done a fantastic job of keeping active. Do things hurt? Of course. All the broken bones I've had over the years, sprains, nerve damage... I'll take being able to keep active. After all, if something hurts I know I woke up this morning!!!!

Yes, we do get a collection of injuries over our lives. But most of the time I don't have any pain, and that has to be because of yoga.

I'm learning more and more how the medical field is selling we aging population short. And I'm believing the missing piece to the puzzle for us to age better and with less diseases is replenishing some of the growth hormone we have lost over the years. draxe.com/nutrition/supplements/human-growth-hormone/This is a good general overview and I'm not talking about Pumping Steroids.....

I believe that yoga develops and maintains flexibility as one ages. I regret I never learned it, but I do occasionally do stretches.

Yoga definitely prevents stiffness, and therefore prevents most muscle pain. You don't have to learn anything difficult. You can do some very simple easy yoga every day and get great benefits.

I have a stretching and breathing and "tapping" routine I do every morning before I go to my kitchen and start my day. I can't even think how worse off I'd be if I didn't do what I do. For 81, I do a lot of good stretches and my body is not painful when I do them.

I first attended yoga classes(and Taekwondo) in the early '70s. Then LIFE happened(work, marriage, divorce etc) and I just lost sight of their
benefits. But I'm back on track, and I feel better than when I was in my forties. A lot of seniors are discovering that they can reclaim some of their youth though lifestyle changes(ie:better diet, exercise).
Back in the day, people were going "down-for-the-count" when they got into their 60s. Walkers, heart surgery, being dead etc. doesn't have to be that way....

It seems to me a lot of people are still like that. Maybe it's because of where I live -- an over 55 apartment complex in a suburb. Not too many here are self-educated about health. A small number are. I think maybe to have awareness about health you have to be the kind of person who likes to read a lot. I bet there are people who have not read a non-fiction book or article since they were in high school. Maybe not even then. If you don't read, then all you know is the official story, told by the medical and drug industries. That we are living longer now, and therefore getting more terrible diseases which need ever more drugs.

Not too many here are self-educated about health. A small number are. I'm happy that at least there are some getting the message, in my Tuesday & Thursday Silver Sneaker 'Classic" class there are a few older-than-me ladies using walkers, who are giving it their best effort to better their physical condition. never too late.
