All religions are Cults. Can we use that word here? But the more I think about it at this old age, the more I believe this to be true.

Organized religion appeals to ones approval seeking needs. Leaders of churches attempt to teach conformity by using fear of retribution as a weapon. You must please Jesus or someone external to yourself otherwise you will be punished.
A careful look at Jesus Christ will reveal an individual who preached self reliance and was not afraid to incur disapproval. Yet, many of his followers have twisted his teaching into a catechism of fear and self hate.
I believe using yourself as a guide and not needing approval of an outside source is the most religious experience you can have...rather than having someone dictate how you should behave.

They work on brainwashing one and then ask for money. Shame people into giving their last pennies, I've seen the poor in Mex giving their pennies they need for food. Shame on them all. They prey on the weak and I'm speaking of catholics and all their rich altars..
What comes to mind is when my mom who was devout but not a rich woman by any stretch and during her last months of life, a nun would come to visit her and I was there at their house for a visit and when the nun was leaving she said to my mom "Ann you are not sending your envelops (money)" I about screamed. I said mom "stop"...you've given enough....
But I guess the church and her rosary got her thru some hard life, so I can't condem it all for her choice. Her choice I'm sure was from her parents choice....Same with me when I was a little kid and got it from my mom.....I had to break away on my own and it took years.

I am Ch’an Buddhist we do no look at our faith as cult mainly because Buddhism relies to a greater extent to inner reflection rather than outside input from some one else. Meditation and Mindfullness is the main focus and to show loving kindness to all sentient beings.

I left catholic church in my 30's and total religion and god in mid 60's...took me a long time.

I am Catholic and I grew up with a very positive experience. I had a very wonderful parish priest in México and did not have what many here in the USA had with predators. I went to Catholic school and had excellent education and also a very very positive experience. My complaint was when I was forced to choose divorce after being married to a extremely abusive man who cheated on me on a regular basis. Our priest at that time ( I have since changed my church) encourage me strongly to remain married to a cheater and a physical abuser which was totally unacceptable and no matter what the doctrine of the Church said... I was getting out of that marriage!!!

I'm nothing. I was never baptized in any church. When I was a little kid I had no choice but to go to church. Started with Baptist, then Methodist, then with Presbyterian... Later in life I did go to a Catholic church,,, and yes,, I;m going to hell as I accepted the body of Jesus... Yeah yeah yeah.... God knows my heart.

I am a lapsed lazy Catholic but still maintain many of the beliefs. My priests were wonderful but the nuns were scary. I am glad that my parents took the time to raise me as a Catholic.
