"The challengers argued the huge Christian cross in Maryland defies the First Amendment’s ban on establishing religion."“Due in large part to the image of the simple wooden crosses that originally marked the graves of American soldiers killed in the war, the cross became a symbol of their sacrifice, and the design of the Bladensburg Cross must be understood in light of that background,” Alito wrote. “That the cross originated as a Christian symbol and retains that meaning in many contexts does not change the fact that the symbol took on an added secular meaning when used in World War I memorials.” MOREWhat do you think? I have mixed feelings about it. www.huffpost.com/entry/supreme-court-christian-peace-cross-ruling_n_5cfeb071e4b02ee3477b60cc

I also have mixed feelings about it.
It might have "taken on a secular meaning" but it's is a symbol of one religion. I wonder if it was a Star Of David or a Pagan symbol if that would also simply be considered an acceptable symbol to Christians and other religions.
Old Glory would have been a better idea. IMHO.
The more I think about this I've decided I don't really have mixed feelings about it. I think it's wrong! It's a Christian symbol. Period. But, then again I'm not crazy about the idea of making someone hold one hand on a bible when taking an oath. I know. I am a picky b!tch. lol.
Politics and religion are not only strange bed fellows they are a dangerous combination. It usually starts off with this attitude of it's no big deal. It's only a cross. By the time it actually becomes a BIG deal and people are harmed or killed because they are not of the Christian faith and because of that they are seen as evil enemies and not patriots it's too d*mn late. IMHO, of course.
We've been down this path before...
