After years of searching from being born into catholism, SOM came to me in the mid 80's and never left. I no longer attend any churches or study groups but the principles stay with me. Finding this way has made my life so much easier as I've almost arrived at 81. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_Science Anyone else know it?

I have heard of it and years ago when I lived in Denver attended a meeting with a friend. I didn't delve into it. joymarty ~ I am also a born Catholic, raised in Catholic schools. I have tried other religions and now am thankfully free of religious affiliations. (Several others on this Forum are also "formerly Catholics." We've had some good discussions about this.)

I never questioned religion until in my 30's and then when I found SOM in the 80's it's the only belief that makes sense to me. All the dogma from so many "crazy" religions killing each other. Good Grief. When I hear all the news out of the Middle East it is just sickening what they people believe and are dying left and right. Their choice and I just have to lay back and let go....some times I go to the thought of "this is one way to lower world population"....
I was trying so hard to get "off the fence" on religion and god and had heard so much about Julia Sweeney and her path, and when I found she had a one woman play in Hollywood and it was called "Letting Go of God"...I went with a friend, I was in my early 60's...and the room was filled and that play got me "off the fence...she convinced me of what I needed.
Last I heard she's on the Board of Directors of Freedom from Religion which I believe is in WI and which I almost joined but didn't. I know what I believe.

Unfortunately, religion affects us more than we realize ... either positively or adversely. It messed up my life. Looking back on my life, I see how it influenced me in making decisions and life changes.(And not for the best.) That was 60 years ago when I was 20. It took me many years to get those ingrained beliefs out of my mind.
