Shameful this behavior Rebecca has a good priest who very kindly but so many hurt children just boggles my mind In my faith, I have never heard of any monk acting in such a disgusting dishonorable manner. Perhaps because monks and nuns reserve most of their time in meditation and prayer and study of the Dharma rather than individual interaction with the Sangha (congregation) I imagine many Christians look at these priests as fallen, as psychologist I look at them for what they are....sexually disturbed individuals who prey upon the weak and use their religious office for perverted self-gratification The Church by hiding these monsters is just as guilty as the rapists they harbor.

When I was growing up I was told in Catholic school that the priest took the place of God on earth. That is part of the reason this has happened. If kids told their parents what the priest had done to them, they were not believed. The adults didn't believe a priest would do those things. I read that many times kids were sexually assaulted by priests their parents befriended and invited to Sunday dinner frequently.
I often wonder what I would have done as a child if that had happened to me. We revered priests.
There is an excellent documentary on Netflix called "The Keepers." It is about a sexual predator priest who was chaplain in an all girl Catholic high school in Baltimore. He killed a young nun and molested many of the students in his office area at the school. It was really awful to think that happened in a Catholic school. The city was aware of this and protected the Roman Catholic Church.
The Catholic Diocese also knew about it. The girls were sworn to secrecy. I spent 4 years in an all girls Catholic high school and shudder to think of that happening in my school.

I didn't go to Catholic school but I was brought up Catholic. However, when I was a youngster anytime me or my siblings behaved badly there was one threat that whipped us back into little angels. "If you don't behave I'll put you in Catholic school!"
I believe most child molesters and other sexual predators are straight men. Therefore, the perfect place for a pervert to hang out is in the catholic church where parents willingly hand their children over to these demented perverts. The child is brainwashed from an early age to revere, trust, and obey these men. After all these guys work for God, are in constant contact with Him, and are almost as Holy as Him.
Is there a more perfect place for a sexual predator to hang out?
I've seen "The Keepers" and would highly recommend it. I was wondering the same thing RubyK was thinking. Were any of the priest in my little church doing that to any of my friends?
BTW, there is one more thing I still wonder about today. That's the length of the skirts on uniforms that girls have to wear who attend Catholic school. For an organization that makes Nuns were a long black gown that touches the floor so you think they don't walk but glide, that have their whole body except eyes, nose, and cheeks completely covered, isn't it strange that young girls still have to wear short and revealing skirts? How about another option like slacks?
NKat, I'm glad your DD was a little baby at the time and her family and friends were all there with her for the whole service.

Rubyk, I didn't know that. I guess you can tell how long it's been since I was in a Catholic church.
Thank you for the info.
