I feel nobody is forcing people to buy the drugs yet alone take them. Something has to be done about the border. Is there not a cap on the number of people that are allowed in to our country? Nkat Do you drink? Do you know people who drink? Do you have friends who drink? Alcohol is one of the worst drugs out there. No one forces people to buy alcohol, or to drink it. With all due respects, neither you, nor anyone else is qualified to judge anyone. You haven't walked in their shoes. Instead of judging people, we should all do our best to understand their problems. In so doing, we will better understand why people become alcoholics and drug addicts which will help to make society better qualified to offer solutions toward prevention. Some countries have legalized all (or virtually all) drugs, putting emphasis on prevention rather than crime and punishment. Those bold countries have had tremendous success, not only by reducing drug use, but by saving a lot of money in the process - money that had been spent on policing, courts, and prisons. Where the border is concerned, as has been said over and over again, immigration and drug smuggling are two completely unrelated issues. Anyone fleeing a dangerous environment in a foreign country has a legal right to seek asylum in the US. Denying aid to needy people is a Republican thing that's been going on for at least decades. Republicans would rather kick those in need to the streets rather than help them...how Christian of them... Kicking people to the streets doesn't alleviate the problem. It only serves to make people more desperate and therefore, more dangerous.

Drugs do come in from Mexico, but most come try to come in through port of entry.
They can mislead the people who wish to believe, but it is just not true.
Lying over and over does not make it true.

I do not drink or take drugs. Dh has a glass of wine at night. I really do not hang out with drunks. Some that I knew are now deceased. As for the people coming in, the country is running out of places to house them and funds to keep them. A lot are not coming to flee persecution but to make a better living. Saw a family interviewed on CNN yesterday who are coming here to work 2 years then plan to go home. Just come in legally. nkat

Saw a family interviewed on CNN yesterday who are coming here to work 2 years then plan to go home. Just come in legally. nkat We need migrant workers, but there's no way for them to come here legally, and migrant workers are a whole different type of immigration problem. Plans have been submitted, but congress can't agree on solutions. One party has no problem with treating immigrants, whether seeking asylum, or trying to come here to work, like animals. The other party is proposing humane ways to deal with the problem. Either way costs money, and like everything else, it's about money when it comes to how our government deals with problems. You said, "nobody is forcing people to buy the drugs yet alone take them." I was responding to what you said. I never said anything about drinking or taking drugs to alleviate problems. I didn't ask if you hung out with drunks. All I asked was, do you drink, do you know people who drink, and do you have friends who drink? I was making no judgments. My point was, no one forces people to drink any more or less than anyone forces someone to take drugs...yet people drink, and drinking alcohol (one of the worst drugs available), is a socially accepted norm. Knowing that people seem to like altering their minds, why would someone be less inclined to try drugs than to drink alcohol (which is also a drug), other than possible legal ramifications? It's all mind-altering stuff. Very few people have a problem with people drinking - even on a daily basis. Some people get drunk every day, yet they function well within society. Alcohol is among the worst of all drugs, yet it is legal, and more people drink than don't. Some stats regarding alcohol use.

The GOP and others are drawing people to the border, by lying that it is open.
Biden, is being forced, to do something to show it is not, so people will not come just to be, sadly, deported.
There needs to be a balance, between giving asylum and drawing people in to a very dangerous, waste of a trip.

Cities are running out of the ability to help everyone. IMO border needs to be closed and the huge backlog of people filing legally has to be taken care of. People are coming here with summer clothing, no money, many medical problems, and not knowing one word of English. They seem to have phones and should know that our streets are not paved in gold. They are getting a lot of freebies that need to be stopped. NKat

If Republicans are in control, our taxes will go up, but if Democrats are in control, they'll raise taxes on the rich to pay for it and you and I won't have to pay for the increased security. During our country's biggest economic success, the ultra-rich paid as much as 90% on part of their income. Now, many of them pay less than 15% with some paying nothing at all. There's a lot of cheating going on. If the IRS were funded properly, we'd catch a lot more of the cheaters but again, Republicans will fight against beefing up the IRS. There's lots of money available to pay for border security without everyday people's taxes going up.

I heard it was tax payers from the states. That is why legals need sponsors to pick up these costs.
