The Christmas tree that's in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan was 92 years old. It was cut down to be decorated so people can look at it. WTH?
Call me a bleeding heart liberal, or a nut job, or a tree lover, but why couldn't we put a fake tree up? Decorate it with pretty colored lights, and all the other decorations, and then use it again next year? People can still ooh and ah all they want and a beautiful tree, a gift from Mother Nature that lived for nearly 100 years, could perhaps live another 92 years.
I'm a New Yorker. I grew up in Queens, NYC. I'd be perfectly happy to see a big, beautiful, fake tree all decked out for the holiday instead of a real tree that survived for 92 years.
It doesn't make my holiday happier to see a beautiful old tree cut down to be looked at. It makes me sad.

I'm with you, birdgirl. Anything that has lived for 92 years deserves to live on.

Very sad that a grand old tree has to be cut down to satisfy the vanity of humans. An artificial one would serve just as well. I've used an artificial Christmas tree for many years, and find it beautiful when decorated...and a lot less fuss (no watering/shedding needles/then arranging for disposal).

What about the tree farmers who depend on growing and selling these trees to make a living.? Just like the trees for the White House, the state and tree farmers are proud when their’s is selected. I honestly did not believe in cutting down these trees.

I don't know for sure if this tree was from a tree farm. I'm not picking on farmers either.
All I'm saying is it's a shame to kill a tree, or anything that lived and thrived for nearly 100 years, when I'm pretty sure humankind can create a fake tree that looks and smells like a real tree for people to look at.
It doesn't make me feel good to see it. It makes me feel sad and bad. But that's just me. I don't like to see fly paper either. Just kill them instead of torturing them.
Different strokes for different folks. ;)
