Reason does not get people to vote.
With Ronald Reagan, the GOP the learned to the big lie works better, in getting people to vote, give the people all the candy and cigarettes the people went.

People stood in line to take their turn drinking Kool-Aid, knowing they would die. They believed a man named Jim Jones and his deadly lies. Today, millions stand in line to do the bidding of a corrupt, narcissistic, sexual abuser, tyrant. They hang on his every word, fully believing his lies. They will kill for him. They will end democracy to see him installed as "King". Family relationships, marriages, neighboring... nothing is sacred if it comes between them and what their chosen one says.
No, they aren't "thinking". They are sheep following, blindly, over the cliff. If they were "thinking" they would think about what MTG and Boebert spew. If they were "thinking" they would not vote for someone as brain dead as Herschel Walker. If they were "thinking" they would not elevate Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity to the same pedestals as their television evangelists.
Democracy in the United States will not die at the hands of "thinkers". Democracy will be trampled to death by those who refuse to think... are afraid to think... fully convinced they don't have to think. Their hero is holding out quart jars of Kool-Aid, telling them to drink it down, and they are standing in line to honor his wish.

I agree. I believe the only thing they are thinking about is voting against a Democrat. Period.
Think about it. No pun intended.
Can you imagine the outrage, horror, and disgust these thugs would be spewing if a Democrat had all the garbage trump has? If a Democrat behaved the way trump does? Lying and cheating seems to be the only language he knows, and his loyal servants praise his holy name.
Either they are exactly like him or they approve of his despicable ways, or they wouldn't vote for a Democrat if Hell froze over.
Trump knew that. That's why he changed Parties. He is a sly, cunning man who only thinks about himself. His supporters are so opposed to Democrats they'd vote for Satan himself if he was a candidate. Hmm. Perhaps he is. ;)

It's sad that such an important aspect of citizenship as voting has dropped to the level of attraction like those in the sports and entertainment field. Love your favorite ball team, but make damn sure that the politician that you're going to cast your vote for is actually decent, honest and qualified so as to do what's best for the country.

On the other hand, we have the politics of today. We have a Republican party that, regardless of the circumstances, unanimously votes to give tax breaks to corporations and wealthy people - tax breaks for the same people who have realized over a 1300% increase in their incomes since 1978 while the working class has seen an increase of only 18% (Source: Economic Policy Institute). They also unanimously vote against healthcare, public schools, infrastructure, help for the poor, improvements to the climate, etc. They have unanimously taken a "do nothing" stance when it comes to gun violence, and they've vehemently defended ownership of weapons of war. They unanimously applaud the overturning of Roe V Wade, and if they take over congress in these midterms, will work to reduce or eliminate Social Security and Medicare. That says nothing about their stance on completely banning abortion, eliminating a person's right to marry the person they love, and eliminating access to birth control. On the other hand, the Democratic party is the polar opposite and stands with supporting what's best for the masses. Not only do Democrats work to improve education, infrastructure, healthcare and the environment, they fully support women's rights, and hold dear a "live and let live" attitude toward members of the LGBTQ+ community, and all races and cultures, and Democrats have been fighting for reasonable gun safety regulations. It's very likely, I'll never actually get to sit down and have a conversation with any of the major political candidates, so I won't ever get a real chance to know them beyond what I get from the news and political ads. Because of what I just laid out, I will vote strictly based on party philosophy. There will always be schmucks regardless of party, but as I've said before, I'll never cast another vote for a Republican as long as I'm alive.

If you do not like a candidate for any reason use your vote. That should also include astronauts like Kelly.

Same here, it took me 24 years as a registered Republican to figure out that the GOP really has NOTHING but empty words for the average citizens. Just the same talking points, the same whine, the same fear mongering. But, it when the Right stepped up their game with the outright lying and slander(thank you Newt Gingrich) is when my eyes were opened to the GOP's ideological bankruptcy.

I started working when I was 17. Social Security was taken out of my paycheck so when I retired I'd be financially secure. What 17 year old thinks about those things? :)
If I remember correctly it was MY money and a promise that when I did retire I'd get it back. It was my money and it still is my money. Not a handout! From my young hand to my old hand but still my hand and still my money.
Stop making it sound like it is a government handout that I don't deserve.

"I'll never cast another vote for a Republican as long as I'm alive." That is telling, but when you believe that the R's will do away or reduce SS it shows that you hve been had. It's telling that I will never cast another vote for Republicans? I certainly hope it is. It says I will support improvements in healthcare, infrastructure, education, and the environment. It says I will support women's rights and the rights of people of all colors, all sexual orientations, all cultures, and all religions including no religion. It says I'll support everyone's equal rights to freely vote and encourage everyone to do the same despite Republican's false claims of voter fraud and election denials. It says I am fully in support of background checks and banning weapons created specifically made to be used in wars. It says I fully support taxing the wealthy to provide benefit to the masses since the wealthy have demonstrated they are only loyal to themselves and couldn't care less about the masses. Regarding SS, it appears YOU are the one who has been had. From Yahoo Finance: "The latest example came this week from Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), who's running to be the top Republican on the House Budget Committee next year. In an interview with Punchbowl News, he discussed Social Security reform and opened the door to the possibility of future benefit cuts." From New York Magazine: "The plan, notes Fitzpatrick, would gradually raise the Medicare age of eligibility to 67 and the Social Security eligibility to 70 before indexing both to life expectancy. It backed withholding payments to those who retired early and had earnings over a certain limit. And it endorsed the consideration of options to reduce payroll taxes that fund Social Security and redirect them to private alternatives. It also urged lawmakers to “phase-in an increase in means testing” for Medicare." From Bloomberg: "Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, running for re-election, has said that Social Security should become a “discretionary” program funded by the government in each year’s budget. Senator Rick Scott of Florida has proposed requiring all government programs, presumably but not explicitly including Social Security, to get affirmative renewal every five years. Blake Masters, running for the Senate in Arizona, said during the primaries: “Maybe we should privatize Social Security. Private retirement accounts, get the government out of it.”

That BS has been the Democrats have been using for years and it is just BS. You should also thank your employer as the employer paid in the same amount as you did into your SS account.

Republicans consistently call Social Security an "entitlement," putting it in the same category as SNAP benefits and no, thank the government for making the employer pay half. Employers would never do that on their own.

You've called me a liar time and again and I've provided links and sources of information to prove you wrong, and here we are again. Do your own fking homework. I' won't be led on a wild goose chase looking for information you ignore. When I've provided information for you, you continue on your absurd stand - for Republicans and against Democrats. I'm for Democrats and against Republicans for the reasons I've shown to be true. You, on the other hand, continue to make false claims...and by the way, it's "cannot," not "can not."
