My spouse and I were talking about how things have changed since we were children. When we were in school we would have fire drills and air raid drills. Yes, that's how old we are. ;) For the fire drill we would leave the building immediately using all the exits so we weren't all bunched up together. For the air raid drill we would get under our desks and put our hands over our face. Even as a child I remember thinking what good is this going to do? Today children have active shooter drills. I can't even imagine how that makes them or their parents feel. I wonder if other "civilized" countries have active shooter drills in their schools. We do have a chant about God, guns, guts and glory so I should not be surprised or shocked. I am though.

I remember the fire drills but don't recall any air raid drills. I can't imagine what children nowadays feel and think when they have to practice active shooter drills. Home schooling is becoming the norm for parents to keep their children safe.

Homeschooling works for those who can get by being a single income family. In today's economic times, often even two incomes have difficulty putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their heads. Also, I feel the homeschooled kids miss out on socialization skills they would learn if in school.
It seems ridiculous that people vote for politicians who are bought and paid for by the gun lobby. Rather than try to solve the issue of school children being slaughtered in classroom, seems all they want to do is put more guns in the schools. That solves nothing other than have the children and teachers accidental shootings or the firearms falling into the hands of the wrong people.
Metal detectors at school entryways no longer solve anything. Those wanting kill children and teachers can 3-D print a firearm, piece by piece, out of material which will go undetected.
I don't have the answers. It's gone entirely too far. Just feel so sorry for our grandkids and great grandkids having to deal with the mess we have left for them.
