The people across the street from us, one house over, leave their dog out and she barks the whole d*mn time. Sometimes an hour or more. She's a little dog and they are very good at yapping and yapping. Poor thing. I feel bad for the little dog. I have other feelings for her people. I know they can hear because I spoke to one of them once but I can't remember about what. I was in their house too but I have no clue why. If they would stand there with her I'm pretty sure she wouldn't bark. She wants to go back inside. Trixie's human gave me a milk bone biscuit to give to Trixie when I was there. She took it very politely and went back to her bed to enjoy it. Too bad her people aren't that polite. One evening I drove my car over to their house after poor Trixie was finally brought inside. I was going to hold my hand on my horn and leave it there for as long as I could. Suddenly someone opened the passenger door. Scared the Hell out of me. My spouse stood there and asked, "Whatcha doin?" As if she didn't know. I told her my plan. She said if I did that I'd be just as bad as they are and who needs problems with them? She's right. There's only 4 houses on this block. We are at the end next to a quiet state park that's full of awesome, quiet, wildlife. She's is right. Who needs trouble with rude and crude people? I would be just like them.

Been in this home 22 years. Been blessed with good neighbors the entire time. But... the home we lived in just before we moved here had a barking/yapping dog next door. The lady would just leave the dog out and let it bark... hour after hour. If we weren't dog lovers, would have found a mean way to throttle the bark.
Now and then, our little mutt will decide she sees something she should bark at. As soon as we hear her, we go to the back door and simply say "Cheerio!". She knows the quicker she gets inside the quicker she gets a Honey Nut Cheerio. Seems to work every time.

I never blame the dog. I'd rather throttle the people. I know they have to hear her. She goes out, does her business, and then wants to go back inside. How difficult is that?
I think it's cruel to make her stay out there and bark and bark. The woman next to them just lost her husband. He wasn't well for a long time. She is dealing with that. The guy across the street from them, a Veteran, just had surgery on his leg. Does he need that?
I'm a grouchy old lady who believes some people should not have pets if they are too lazy or too stupid to care for them properly. Being an obnoxious and rude neighbor is bad enough. Mistreating your pet is cruel.
I wish I believed in karma and payback.
2Old, a cheerio? Just one? I assume she is a small dog and not a Saint Bernard. I had a Saint Bernard once. He was a good boy. The drool wasn't much fun but nobody is perfect.

One evening I was walking Doc, my St. Bernard. It was late. About midnight. Doc was a gentle giant. He loved everyone. Including our cats. I notice a man walking towards me. He seemed to have come out of nowhere.
Doc starts to growl. He can growl? Never heard him do that. The man stops in front of me, the growl gets louder. The man asks me if the dog bites. Growl gets even louder and leash is shaking. I asked him if he'd like to find out. It was late and I wasn't in the mood for BS. He turned around and walked away. Guess not, huh? Doc got extra milk bones when we got home. Good boy!

birdgall, this situation sounds like a nightmare, for the poor dog as well, could you not report it to the authorities ?

I probably could report them for disturbing the peace or animal abuse.
I've done both those things in the past with other cruel pet owners and not a damn thing was done. Someone actually showed up back then and the owners claimed they just put the dog out. Of course the dog was leaping all over the owner, wagging her tail, which made me look like a grouchy old crazy woman.
Unless their home is sound proof they have to hear their dog. How can they ignore all that barking? It's like ignoring a baby crying. How can anyone do that? I don't get it. I guess I really am a grouchy old woman. Oh well. Lol.

Thank you, Fleur! That was a kind thing to say. You just put a smile on my face. Or, as they would say in the good old days, you turned my frown upside down.
Thank you again! :)

I am listening to a dog bark downstairs as I read this forum. The people who live in the downstairs condo - a woman and her 12 year old son - bought a Shih Tzu puppy in May. They have never owned a dog before this. The dog barks constantly during the day when they are gone. I complained to the condo management and they said they can't send a violation to them because there's nothing in the condo rules about a dog barking. They will send a violation notice to them for never having the dog on a leash and letting it poop all over the place
So today I am going to call city hall to get the rules about dog barking.
I feel sorry for the little dog.

I called the city; animal control came over to check on the dog barking. They parked out front and came to the entry door outside and were talking to each other quietly outside the front door. The dog heard them talking and stopped barking. He thought his people were home. So they told me to call anytime. Their rules are they have to stay for 10 minutes to hear the barking or it is my word against the dog owners. S...t!

I feel sorry for the dog too. Obviously these people have no idea how to care for a pet. I wonder why they got the dog in the first place. It makes no sense.
It's animal abuse. The dog does not have a happy home. The dog probably will start doing destructive stuff. I despise people like this. They belong in a cage...forever.
