Jan. 6 panel says trump preyed on small campaign donorsThe Trump campaign exploited its donors to raise millions of dollars off of claims of election fraud officials knew were false, the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot argued Monday. “Throughout the committee’s investigation, we found evidence that the Trump campaign and its surrogates misled voters as to where their funds would go and what they would be used for. So not only was there the big lie; there was the big rip-off,” Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) said in a closing statement at Monday’s hearing. In a pre-recorded video, senior investigative counsel Amanda Wick explained how the campaign sent millions of fundraising emails to supporters between Election Day 2020 and Jan. 6, 2021, the day of the riots. The emails urged donors to give money to “fight back” and “step up” in response to the “left-wing mob” and Democrats undermining the election. In all, former President Trump and his allies raised $250 million off the efforts, Wick said, including $100 million in the week after the election. And while publicly some Trump allies said they would continue to challenge the results, numerous campaign aides testified to the committee that privately they told Trump there was no evidence of widespread fraud to support his claims. Two former Trump campaign aides — Gary Coby and Hanna Allred — testified to the committee that the so-called Election Defense Fund promoted by the campaign did not exist and was merely a marketing tactic. link

Rep. Zoe Lofgren says the 1/6 Committee has evidence that Trump and his family were paid from donations based on the big lie. Lofgren tells Jake Tapper that Kimberly Guilfoyle was paid $60,000 to introduce Trump at the 1/6 rally. Grifters! For a 2 1/2 minute introduction, she got paid that kind of money! link

Everybody knows trump and those around him are liars. It's the only language they speak. Liars are usually cheaters too.
I still can't understand how reasonable and sane people can support such a lying cheat. Do these people even know how vile he is? Do they care? Or, are they voting against a Democrat, any Democrat, just because they can.
A bit foolish but what do I know?

Everybody knows trump and those around him are liars. It's the only language they speak. Liars are usually cheaters too. I still can't understand how reasonable and sane people can support such a lying cheat. Do these people even know how vile he is? Do they care? Or, are they voting against a Democrat, any Democrat, just because they can. A bit foolish but what do I know? They were told our government is a swamp and implied or said outright that it's the Democrats who make it so. They were told immigrants are rapists and murderers. They are perpetually fed, "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." They've been told Democrats want to take away your guns. They've been told Democrats are the tax and spend party. They've been told man-made climate change is a hoax (and cigarettes are safe). They've been told, we have the greatest healthcare system in the world and that our educational system is the best in the world. They've been told, (lazy) poor people are dragging our society down. Republican voter have been fed all these lies and a lot more. Why do Republican voters believe these politicians? Because their politicians claim to be Christians. They claim that abortion is murder and that sodomy is a sin, along with things like, Democrats want Muslims to rule, that our country is in danger of being overrun by brown people, and the Republican way is the only way to stop the deterioration of America. It's important to understand, in general, Christians don't see the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. They don't understand that one (the Old Testament), is the Jewish Tanakh or Torah, and the other is about Christ - where Christianity begins. Christian leaders don't want their followers to know the difference. They want people to follow the Bible out of fear despite the New Testament offering nothing of fear, and nothing but hope. Homosexuality and/or sodomy is not mentioned in the New Testament. People who interpret the Bible claim abortion is a sin, yet there is no direct reference to abortion. thewalrus.ca/what-does-the-bible-actually-say-about-abortion/The bottom line...there doesn't seem to be any way to persuade Christians their beliefs regarding the Bible are unfounded, especially when church leaders and politicians continue pounding people over the head with anything that will further their money and power-based agendas. You and I may regard their beliefs as foolish and/or unfounded. We may think their beliefs are mere fantasies not based in reality or science, but religious people are as serious as they can be about their beliefs and certainly, an atheist (viewed by some as the devil himself) stands no chance of altering their thought process. Most "Trumpers" know Trump is a scoundrel, but he claims to be a Christian. Because he's a Christian, no matter what he and the so-called Christian Right does, the end justifies the means. It's the Christian way.

Really need no discussion past the title of this thread. "Trump preyed on..." Preyed on students with a sham college. Preyed on women, openly encouraging grabbing them by their nether regions. Raped teens while cavorting at Epstein parties. Preyed on communities where he held political rallies and refused to pay for security, etc. Preyed on immigrants, hiring them in his hotels while deporting their families. Preyed on the working class by giving huge tax breaks to the wealthy. Preyed...
"Trump preyed on..." Enough said.

The church and the state are snuggling up together and this is not, I repeat NOT, a good thing for a democracy. It was a disaster in the past, it is a disaster today in some parts of the world, and it's the reason our Founders insisted on keeping them separated.
Think about it. Trump who is a vile being, a liar, a cheat, among other gross things, has the support of a group of people who call themselves Christians. Can anything good come out of that? Anything good at all?

2Old, I agree with you about the predator preying on people.
However, I'm assuming those people have brains and are able to see, hear, think, and questions his motives. Unless they are exactly like him and are fine with deceit, unrest, lies, and chaos. Which they probably are. He seems to have a good crowd at his so called rallies.
Birds of a feather?
