My facebook accounts were stolen. Someone got into my page and changed my contact email address and my phone number, along with my login information. Because of that, if facebook were to send a recovery code so I could get my account back, I wouldn't receive it. They asked me for a form of identity which I provided, but they also said, due to covid-19, they were short-staffed and might not get to it. They said I violated community standards and I was no longer allowed on facebook. I violated no community standards as they claim, unless you consider (paraphrase) "Hey MF (typed as is), are you happy now that you've stolen my account?" which I sent to the thief. I sent it when I could still get in after I had to create a new account. I sent the message from there. From my new account, I sent numerous friend requests to friends I could still see on my old page. I had over two hundred friends back - almost half in one day. I'm not an abusive person anywhere including facebook, though people have pushed me over the line on a rare occasion. I am hurt to lose communication with family and numerous friends. I'm furious that facebook never tried to get to the bottom of the problem, asking primarily generic questions. When they asked for identity, I provided a photo of my driver's license and I thought surely they'd make it right. They didn't. That can only mean, they put "0" effort into solving one of their customer's problems. Facebook is a difficult medium to leave. I know. I've wanted a better place to go for a long time. Well...apparently, I found the easy way out without even trying. I guess it might be nice if everyone went to the Greg Everett (Eagle River, WI) page with "Kaleido" across the top and left a message saying, "I hope you're happy now that you've stolen Greg Everett's account." Lol, that may result in a name and photo change, but who knows? And by the way, I was also hacked in numerous other places including PayPal, ebay, Amazon, and my google accounts including YouTube. I got my google accounts back yesterday (9/16/20). My debit card was locked and I couldn't access my bank account online. Fortunately, I caught everything in time and it didn't cost me other than a whole lot of time. I thought my passwords were strong. The new passwords on all my accounts are now virtually unhackable. I'd still like to have my facebook page back. Greg
Please do me a favor. Pass this on.

Wholly cow! It's good to hear you caught everything in time. Can't help by "passing this along." Never belonged to FB. But this hacker needs inundated with negative messages.

My email was hacked last week. Didn't amount to much except sending spam emails to a bunch of my contacts. Got lucky... I think. Hope you get things worked out and this fiasco behind you!!!!

I've continually tried to get back into facebook since I was banned. I made some progress last night by being able to get in. After going through a couple of steps, they said I was allowed back in and they were sorry for any inconvenience, but I still can't access control of my page. I'd have to set up a new account so I did. In the mean time, the thief is promoting bitcoin from my page. I can see my old page and I can see all my friends, so I began sending messages to them through messenger to inform them I was hacked and to stay away from bitcoin and my old page. If I get my page back, it's likely a lot of my friends will tend to avoid me. A word of advice...make sure all your passwords are a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. I was using things I could remember like "Everyday1948." Apparently, that wasn't enough. Now, I'm keeping a record of all passwords which are at least 10 characters long and completely random like, "JFtu*7^543+Hg."

What a horrible mess for you, notbob. I can't fathom why anybody would be so vile as to do such harm to another person. Makes me glad I don't use Facebook (no Twitter, either). I hope the situation improves!

@ NotBob & 2old: do you guys by any chance have a Microsoft email account- hotmail, outlook, etc.? That's been the factor my experiences have all had in common.

Update!
As of yesterday, I think my problems are over. I got my fb account back. I finally got an email from fb with a recovery link that actually took me to a place where I could verify my identity. I changed everything in the security section - password and verifiable information. Shortly after that, someone from Nigeria tried to access my account. About two days after I lost my account, I got a phone call from Nigeria. Of course, I didn't answer. Anyway, I think I have everything in proper order now - just hoping I didn't miss anything.

I'm glad to hear it's worked out for you.. I hope it stays that way. Hackers can be darned persistent- from my experiences anyway.

Whaat? You didn't take the call? Could have been some hot chick interested in meeting you! Damn, I wish I woulda' thought of that - always lookin' for hot chicks. The woman who fronted a band I was in told the crowd that I was hoping the Easter Bunny would bring me a basket full of chicks. Anyway, I'm sure thieves don't care that I have no money. They'll gladly steal whatever they can get. I got a text earlier with a recovery code for my fb account. I'm sure that would mean the thief was trying to access my account again and couldn't. He/she probably didn't notice the phone number had been changed. When you try to get an access code by phone, fb shows the last two digits of the phone number it will be sent to. If it's email, they show the first and last digits (g*********p@gmail.com). The first couple of times I tried, I didn't notice the email wasn't me - so the code went to the thief - same with the phone. When I saw the last two digits weren't mine, I knew I couldn't get the code.
