A person, who looks like a child, walks up to a police car, shoots both cops who are in their car, and runs away. At this moment both cops are alive and in the hospital.
We don't let children or deranged people play with matches or knives but almost anybody can buy a gun, give it to someone or leave it loaded, or have ammo near by.
Do you know Why? Because it's our constitional right that's why!
Besides, the USA is number 1 in deaths by guns. Go USA!
I know we are living in dangerous times and people, especially women, need to protect themselves from all the dangerous and deadly lunatics out there.
I also know if guns were banned only lunatics and cold blooded murders would have them.
I don't know the answer. Evil doers will always find a way to do evil.
Sitting in their car with the words "to protect and serve" on that car, something walks up to their car and shoots them both at close range.
My Healing Thoughts go out to those police officers and their family and friends.
I'm usually opposed to death as a punishment for criminals but I'm making an exception this time. Because if this thing is caught I don't want to pay for its food, medical care, or housing. Dispose of it. I'd be glad to pay for that.
People are going to think twice about becoming a police officer or a sitting duck, and we will all suffer for that.

You never know the motive for this. It could be white supremacist trying to cause trouble or someone that thought it was a macho thing to do, like on a dare. It happens from time to time, the US has to many guns on the street.
You can see how having guns for protection (like the police) does not really work, the majority of the time.

I saw this on the local news this morning. I am so sickened that this happened, I hope the two deputies can put their lives back together. I hope they catch the shooter. You can see how having guns for protection (like the police) does not really work, the majority of the time. Thing about guns, they work very quickly, and don't leave any room for second thoughts, or for processing further information on whether such use was actually necessary.

God, guns, guts, and glory.
Guns, killing machines, are worshipped as much as God, guts, and glory.
These are the things that make America Great?
I don't get it. I never will.

You act like this is new. It has happened before (police shooting are not new) the only difference is the political climate.
In the past it was not used for political purposes, It was just more gun violence, we need to stop politicizing every thing.
The police can not be an occupying force, they need to be part of the community, The police do not keep the peace, People in the community doing the right thing keep the peace.
In a big city you could not have enough Police to keep the peace if a lot of people do not do the right stuff. You have the same amount of police and crime goes up and down, The general factors are, economy, drugs, and gangs. (gun availability staying the same.)
Trying to fix the problem by having an occupying force of police is asking for real big trouble, the police will and-up running the country.

Very sickening, I wish speedy recoveries for the officers and healing hearts and mind for their families.

My post was about "People are going to think twice about becoming a police officer or a sitting duck, and we will all suffer for that." I said I think that its already happening....thinking about becoming a police officer. With all the negative press our police are getting why would one want to?

I can say from first hand experience that young men and women flock in droves to apply for police officer jobs, not just for the good pay but probably more importantly, for the prestige. The competition is stiff, out of every 100s of applicants maybe one or two are selected. Once selected they face 23 weeks of academy, where a fair percentage don't make it, mostly dropouts.

The State Troopers we are friends with faced 20 weeks of academy. They can retire after serving 20 years. I would think they have a good turn out with approximately 400 new troopers hitting the roads per year.

The pay and training vary greatly depending on where they work.
If the police were reformed right they would do less work(they are not trained to do) and it would be less dangerous.
Tramp says the police should be respected, like the rich, and him, even if they have not earned any respect.
I really respect police that do their job well. But 3 times as many blacks get shot by police then whites. So if I were black I
would be less like to respect and call or help them.
RESPECT MUST BE EARNED

I agree. Respect must be earned.
Everybody makes mistakes. If not pencils would not need erasers.
There's a BIG difference between getting rye toast instead of whole wheat at a diner, and shooting and killing an innocent young woman in her own friggin bed.
You can return the damn toast!
I don't respect anyone because of the job they have. I respect them for their morals, for how they treat others, for their honesty, integrity and compassion.
Respect is a two way street. A badge, a gun, and a uniform doesn't deserve respect. The person wearing them needs to earn it.
A title like president doesn't deserve respect either. I can not respect, and will not respect, a disrespectful, puffed up jerk, because he sits in the Oval Office.
