So mother nature continues to play nasty games as we age.. One problem.. and one that people really don't want to talk about is incontinence.. There are different kinds.. Stress incontinence.. in which a cough or sneeze causes a little tinkle.. and Urge incontinence.. when you suddenly have to go... and you do. I'm dealing mostly with the later.. which has become worse.. It started a few years back when I would just about get my key into my door lock and I had to race to the bathroom... and just about made it.. Now I don't make it.. I get the sudden urge.. and I go.. I'm now wearing bladder control products around the clock.. I've heard this is common in older women, as the muscles of the pelvic floor weaken with age.. I've been trying exercises but it's not working.. I did have an appointment with my husband's urologist but the covid crisis hit and I wasn't going to go through tests and procedures.. So I deal with it... I have no pain... and no blood in my urine.. It's just annoying.. particularly after I take my diuretic in the morning for my blood pressure.. I was going to bring this up before, but with that woman.. Joymarty here I wasn't about too... I'm not going to take herbal supplements..
My hubby who underwent a radical prostatectomy 3 years ago has this same issue... but for a different reason.. We sure are getting to be a couple of old coots for sure..

Not much they can do for that. I have the stress one. I live with it.

It is quite common as evidenced by all the incontinence products for sale at drug and grocery stores for men and women.

It is quite common as evidenced by all the incontinence products for sale at drug and grocery stores for men and women. That's what I was thinking.. So many products.. this must happen to just about everyone after a certain age judging by the selections available. lol!! I don't think there is anything that can be done about it.. so We just deal with it.

Poise has something that you insert that lifts the bladder. Surgically can they do a bladder lift?
I had a difficult birth and I think that did not help matters.

In 2002 I had a sling put in. A cough and I wet my pants. The sling helped so much and was not too invasive, but it only lasted about 6 years. I also do CrossFit [Virtual now] and when I jump rope...oh my goodness! I wear a pad thingy and was I ever surprised at how well it controlled the major leaks I had. Since I wasn't at the gym I just went for it and each time my feet hit the ground I was leaking. Pain in the butt, but instead of being soaked, the mini pad got it!
So yes, it is there and I wear a pad while hiking, biking, and exercising.
My husband has issues also and they want to do a surgical procedure and that may be a very long way off if ever.
No good advice here, except we learn to deal with it.

Yes.. this is what I was looking for by posting here.. confirmation that this is a very common thing with older ladies and that I am not disgusting.. I have to wear a pad as when the urge hits.. I get chills and then I wet myself.. No even getting close to the bathroom anymore. It's not something people want to talk about either.. so who do you ask?

My dr knows but never suggests anything. Nkat Yes.. I told my Internist and she just kind of looked at me... made no suggestions.. I had an appointment with my husband's urologist, but the virus hit and I cancelled.. Didn't want to start a battery of useless testing now..

Didn't want to start a battery of useless testing now I just talked with hubby's urologist at length over this issue he had and how to deal with it. The Urologist chuckled when I said * we women deal with this all the time and never make a big deal out of it*. He admitted I was right and that he had no good answers for that issue. He said men seemed more upset and that women just dealt with it. However I suppose there are situations that would warrant seeing a doctor. The test for holding urine pretty much sucked and I wouldn't do it again. They did a flow test and let's just say that catheters suck.

Feeling much more hopeful regarding this issue.. I saw my Internist today for a regular check up and we talked about my problem.. She gave me a referral to a Uro/Gyne… doctor specializing in Female incontinence.. And the best part is the doctor is a woman.. So YEY!! I hate men looking around my Netherlands.... It didn't bother me when I was young and had male obstetricians and gynes.. but it really does now for some reason.. She told me that there are options available including medication... or just living with it as it's so common... So I'm going to get checked out..

A zo even has a pill out.
QS let us know what the dr says. Being on a water pill seems to defeat the entire purpose.

I need the water pill for my blood pressure.. I take that and Norvasc.. and it seems to control it..

Getting old is disgusting. I'm not suggesting the alternative, just stating a fart, oops, I meant fact, or did I?
