Interesting research It appears that cats really do recognize their names.... even when they are being aloof and don't respond.... over the years I have known many cats.... and yes they seem to perk up when I called out their names or maybe it was the kitty treats in my hand?? hahahah!!

My cat's ears twitch when I say her name, but she doesn't come to me.

My cats are very aware of their names and all the words I speak to them. If I call them by name, they come running. If I ask them if they want to play, they retrieve the toy they want to play with and we do. Sometimes my #1 cat grabs the laser pointer and that is what she wants to play. #2 likes to play string. #3 cat shoots her ping pong ball across the room. Ask them if they are hungry, they come running. Tell them it's bedtime and they go to their spot and nestle down for the night and do not disturb us at all. They let us know when someone strange to them come onto our property.
I believe any animal can be trained properly if one puts forth the energy to work with them and understand what they need.

I believe any animal can be trained properly We do not 'train' cats. They 'train' us.
Having shared lives with many feline companions over the years, I've learned that cats are highly intelligent. Cats give unconditional affection and in turn, one must respect that and return it with the same.

Growing up around a hoard of feral barn cats, I never developed a liking for felines. When I go to our daughters home, one of her cats seems to think I'm his best friend and tries to stay the entire time on my lap. I 'tolerate' him, more for the benefit of him putting up with my daughter and her family than my strong attraction to him. I would never be cruel to a feline, just have never felt comfortable around them. Of course, my daughter says the reason I don't like cats is that I may know they are smarter than I am! She may well be correct!!!! :>)

Next time you visit, make eye contact and talk to him, reach a hand out to him...perhaps he will then ignore you.

My cat looks at me like drop dead. She does come running for her Greenie treats. She tolerates me but loves my dh. I have never had a cat like this one.
