Considering the very small probability that someone will get hepatitis B before they have sex or inject IV drugs, it makes absolutely no sense to get it at day one. A day old infant is VERY SMALL and VERY VULNERABLE to toxins. If you think the vaccine is so necessary, at least WAIT until the person is likely to be at risk, and their body is big and strong enough to possibly handle toxins. There is some truth and logic to what you say, but what about babies born to drug-addicted mothers? Toddlers crawl and grab everything in sight. A dirty syringe left lying around can be an attractive target and can infect a toddler in a heartbeat. If the mother is a drug addict, or is infected with hepatitis B, then it might make sense to vaccinate the baby. It would not be so hard to check those things first. Instead, every single newborn is given the vaccine. What percent of mothers are drug addicts or infected with hepatitis B? Parents should be made aware that they are exposing their infant to toxins, probably for no good reason. Then they can make a sensible choice.
