even though the economy is the only thing they can point to a new poll states that 54% of those polled expect trump to win a second term.a lot can happen in a year and one half but it's cutting it close.maybe he can spend the rest of his his presidency,be it 1 term or 2 visiting various royal families.that seems to satisfy him. lol. it's discouraging but we can't tell our fellow citizens how to vote.even though the economy is the only positive he has we can't hope for a recession.i wonder if history will judge us badly?

My take: There have only been 2 sitting presidents in my lifetime that did not win a second term- Jimmy Carter and George HW Bush. I did not count Gerald Ford, as he 'inherited' his 1st term from Nixon's resignation.
Here is the complete list of one-termers:

it takes a lot to unseat a sitting president.i guess we should be grateful that there are term limits.

In that particular aspect, the founding fathers were very prudent.

I think the term limit of the President was put into place after Franklin D. Roosevelt won a third term.

Yes, Rubyk, I decided to check and you are quite correct.
The presidential restriction to 2 terms, or 10 years in the case of a president who was a VP who became president due to death or incapacity of the president, is decreed by the 22ns Amendment which as ratified in 1051.

I cannot preach enough the importance of keeping the majority in the House and flipping the Senate. It seems everyone has tunnel vision, focused on the White House. I am NOT convinced a Democrat can beat Trump. And, if we don't, the only salvation would be to have a united Congress to hold him in check. And... there is a chance a united Congress could impeach and remove... something not available to us now.
Trump's base is strong. The Republicans and evangelicals will forsake morals, common sense, and patriotism just to keep Trump in office. Meanwhile, the Dems will split into groups rallying for specific causes and specific candidates. Will the minority races come out to support a "woman's rights" candidate if another candidate is stronger on racial bias? Will the college age and young marrieds come out to support a candidate whose main agenda involves corporate issues and tax structures they don't understand? Will Sanders' supporters vote third party as they did in 2016? Will those wanting a female president stay home if a male is our candidate? I just don't find the energy and commitment out there supporting a candidate who isn't hyping "MY" issues?
I live in a red state. Have all of my 72+ years. Maybe it's just that environment, but it is amazing the support I hear for this dotard. Any... ANY mention of his lies or corruption and the first comment is "What about Hillary!" I still hear comments about "the first and last black we'll allow in the White House". This guy can bankrupt our ag industry and the farmers will go to the grave supporting him. This guy can hand billions of dollars of arms to enemies across the globe and the NRA minions will applaud him... as long as he doesn't push for universal background checks and banning of assault rifles. This guy can kill off as many children kept in pens at the border and these folks will say, "Well, it's their fault for coming here. He's just protecting our borders!"
Post after post on forum after forum is all about getting Trump out the door and …. and... and then what? We still have Pence as President. We still have McConnell shutting down anything the House passes. We could usher Trump out of the White House tomorrow and not one more common sense legislation would move through Congress. We MUST start now looking at every Senate seat and see what we can do to begin the work of flipping it... NOW!!!!

it will be difficult to elect a democratic house and senate if a republican is elected president.i suppose that it is possible.i pray that trump is not re-elected.with each passing day we are getting closer to the end of his administration,no matter how long it lasts.

The economy seems to be the major reason for much of trump's support; therefore I'd reluctantly be willing to have the economy tank if it would get that POS out of the WH. I've read the same thing about a second term for trump. Hopefully, once the candidate is chosen for the Dems, they will get their heads screwed on straight and get behind the Dem candidate or that prediction will come true. He can do a whole lot more damage in four more years - and the question remains will he voluntarily leave after 8 years? I have my doubts.

People working at minimum wage and can't pay their bills. Ford closing plants and laying people off. GM closing plants and laying people off. Truck farms either not planting or letting fruit and vegetables rot in the fields because the immigrant labor they use has been restricted from entering the country. The threatened Mexico tariffs will drive up the cost of the fruits and veggies previously grown here. China trade war will cause inflation. European countries threatening trade restrictions because of Trump. I don't see the propped up economy holding until the November 2020 election. Still... his base won't desert him. As far as a "third" term. If/When re-elected in 2020, we will begin seeing more and more and more of Ivanka. 2024, he will convince his base that she needs... MUST be the Republican candidate. And... they will believe him.
