Shuttling one of my wife's friends back and forth to visit her husband in hospice. She doesn't like to drive and, with the snow, was beside herself. He's been in hospice for over 2 weeks! Nothing but skeleton left. They keep thinking he won't make it past the day, and he does. Sad. Keep thinking how much we have to be thankful for.
Our local hospice facility is awesome. Clean. Caring staff. I just would rather not spend time there. Has to be tough to just lay there day after day, waiting to die. Give me a shot and put me to sleep.

Daughter and family have about 10 acres a few miles southwest of Kansas City. Their two German Shorthair dogs... big lugs... share the bed with her and her husband. Night before last, one of them wanted out at 3 a.m. She stumbled out of bed and to the front door and let him outside. Waiting, bleary-eyed, she heard him yelp! Opened the door and the dog came charging back into the house. He had been sprayed by a skunk!!!! So, here she was a little after 3 a.m. trying to give the dog a tomato juice rubdown. Tomato juice is the best thing to neutralize skunk odor. By the time she got him all rubbed down and bathed, it was time to get up anyway.
The house stunk. She sprayed room spray all through the house. Had meetings all day, yesterday, at work. Flying out early this morning to corporate headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Said in every meeting, she asked people if she smelled like a skunk! Didn't want to have her seat passenger on the plane or corporate execs thinking she hadn't bathed in a while.
When she called, last night, she was pretty worn out. My wife told her to hang the clothes she would be taking outside for a couple hours to let them air out. Hope she had a perfectly "odorless" trip...... :>)

Oh, the joy of having pets! That happened to me once with my long-haired dog. She got sprayed by a skunk and tomato juice didn't do the trick with her. The smell wore off in a few days.

Aww. The poor pups. They were probably just sniffing like dogs do. Just checking the skunks out. I'm glad to hear they are okay.
We found an empty box in the park next to our house years ago. There was a note from a skunk that said he had been de smelled and his people couldn't keep him anymore. No skunk in the box. That evening there was a skunk at our front door. We looked up what to feed skunks and left him/her extra food and water.
Never saw that beautiful animal again.

2old The best skunk odor remover I've ever used. Not only on pets but fabrics too. www.humanesociety.org/resources/de-skunking-your-dogWe had a large dog once, that got skunked. He bolted in the door and went right to the bed where my hubby was sleeping and tried getting underneath the covers with him. Dog not only got a bath in this recipe, I also made the solution and put it in a spray bottle to instantly remove the odor from the mattress. The rest of the solution, I put in the washer with my regular detergent to remove the smell from the bedding and skunked clothing. Worked every time!

Old age and the losing of one's mind.... Yes, I have dentures. Only the uppers. Partial in 1981 and full upper plate in 2010. Routine is this. I soak them in a cleaner every night. Fill the container with water. Drop in the cleaning tablet. Follow with the dentures. Replace lid on the container. Go to bed. The next morning, I remove the dentures from the container. Rinse them off. Shower. After the shower, apply the adhesive and place the dentures in my mouth. Have done this for years!!! Two days ago, got up at my regular 5:00ish a.m. Into the bathroom. Removed lid from the denture container. WHAT??!!! No dentures!!! All of a sudden, I realized what I had done. I had filled the container with water. Dropped in the cleanser tablet. Replaced the lid on the container. And... gone to bed without removing the dentures and putting them in the container!!!! Wore them all night and never knew I had left them in. Shows how hard I sleep once I hit the bed. A mind is a great thing... until you lose it!!!!

Just a rant.... Working 12 hour days wasn't hubby's plan to come out of retirement for. Doesn't get home until after 3am since he works second shift. Company just can't find workers, so they've been mandating all CNC operators to work over time on every shift.

Company just can't find workers, so they've been mandating all CNC operators to work over time on every shift. There just aren't people to fill the employment demand, it seems. I don't know of a business in our community that isn't looking for employees. So, they burn out the ones they have. Slap me if I'm out of line. You can better afford for him to retire than afford him having more severe health issues by remaining employed. Wouldn't it be better to teach him knitting and have him around the house than be visiting him in a medical facility? Business loyalty, today, is not to their employees but to their bottom line. It seems the goal is to fill the orders they have... at this moment in time... no matter the human cost. Then, complain about not being able to fill orders tomorrow because there are no employees. His health must be the priority!!! Have him put his foot down at work and tell the employer he will only work 'x' number of hours. The employer will need to make a decision. Have a skilled, dependable employee with good work ethic 8 hours/day or have an idle CNC machine 12 hours/day.

Wouldn't it be better to teach him knitting and have him around the house than be visiting him in a medical facility? Why would I slap you? I thank you for your input! Let me ask you this....you are "retired." Would you be happier staying at home learning to knit instead of doing what you do daily, away from home? He has camaraderie at work. (Like you do with the men at the golf course.) Something he hasn't had for the year and a half he was laid off. When one stays home all the time, procrastination sets in and that easy chair looks mighty inviting. I'm sure you can agree with that? Right now, he's active and healthy, and it shows, which I'm happy to see. He's learned that when he feels he can't do anymore, to stop. I'm sure he'll make the right decision regarding his job. They all get mandated to work OT. If they can't find someone to fill in for them, they either work or don't, then take the 3 points against them for not staying. They can also use their vacation in four hour increments. They are permitted 21 points per year before being terminated. Summer will tell if he continues to stay employed. We shall see....

Camaraderie... interaction with others... feeling useful. Mental health is as important, even more so, than physical health. So many retire and rot away. It is so good to see that he isn't doing that. Just hope he doesn't overdo... as I have a habit of doing!!! :>)
