joybelle, our daughter (not the daughter here in town whose daughter is the bride) from Missouri came in Thursday to assist with preparation. Then her whole family came Saturday. Husband, 2 sons, daughter and daughter's SO. Her daughter and SO just stayed for the wedding and reception/dance. They only live about 1 1/2 hrs from us. Her husband and 2 sons have spent the night and will return to their homes today. Wedding went well. 95 degrees F temps and an outside wedding. HOT!! But, the service was only about 20 minutes from start to finish. Then, back inside where there was a "cocktail hour", large catered meal, and a dance. Wife and I don't drink alcohol so we went through quite a bit of water! :>) Guessing about 60 or so from the reception, dance, etc.

I have been busy and will be again today, hence the poor effort with the games. Back to normal tomorrow.

We have a tourist “tram ” here that takes locals and tourists around to look at Christmas lights , but I very much doubt it will be running this year due to huge increases in electricity and many who went to the effort to decorate their homes are older folk who don’t have the energy to do so now days . I’ve noticed shops don’t even bother decorating the “trees” ….pine cuttings about 5 foot high the council put in the streets outside every business in main streets As for us ……we’ve never been big fans of Christmas so I’ve only ever lightly decorated with a nice Christmas table cloth , small tree and a few little items . It’s hard to say what the weather will be like but here it’s normally hot / fairly warmish …..we are bit in the unsociable side when it comes to Christmas ….we prefer to stay home and do our own thing , eat what we like …. visit family the day after … 2old we enjoy old fashioned food …plum pudding and nice freshly made custard ….nah not into high fat foods or ……. “junk” high sugar laden foods that are served now days …..gettin / got / old cranky now days …..and like my own freshly prepared food The tourist “tram” 2old it usually has 3~ 4 trailers attached And the Museum I volunteered at for 6 years …..my gran went to school in the same building which was built for miners only children

Dusty, we're sorta like you folks. When the kids were young, we'd sometimes drive around town and look at Christmas lights. Never been ones to do much decorating on our own, especially outside lights. Wifey insists on a small tree in our dining room. It's in the basement storeroom all year, decorated. I just carry it up, set it where it always sits and take it back downstairs after Christmas. Once the kids were married, they have in-laws to make happy. We've always just said, "Tell us where to be when or when you will be here!" It's worked well and that way we're not the "bad guys" for insisting on exactly Christmas Day or Christmas Eve. I so much agree with you re "getting old and cranky"! We both try so hard to be kind and respectful of others. Yet, get so tired of all the hate, disrespect, language, etc. when out in public. We had about a 2 hour talk, yesterday. Seems we have settled into our own routines. Should we try to go more places, see more people, etc.? NO! Wife is so good with her helping her group of older ladies. She hauls them around to doctor appts, picks up groceries for them, etc. They try to pay her, but she refuses. It's her way of helping and she enjoys it. I have my group of old geezers at the golf course. Out there early each morning...argue and bicker with them on the course for a couple hours... and then back home. Gets us both out of our recliners, have some interface with good people, but just not that much in a hurry to inflict our grouchiness on new folks!! :>) Life is good!! We're both in relatively good health for late 70's. But, getting more like Scrooge when it comes to Christmas...or much else... "Bah! Humbug!!"

I had a chat to my eldest son yesterday who only married in his 40’s his kids are 9 , 10 and 11 and I’ve given up trying to buy something for them also given up giving them $$$ cause it gets put in “ mums” pocket never to be seen again, so I asked the bank a few days ago about setting up bank accounts for them so I can put money in them for birthdays / Christmas.
but I’ve got to have birth certificates to do that so it will just have to wait till they supply them for me to set the accounts up ..cause I’m nit handing over any further $$ just to be spent on what ever …..I said to the eldest boy ..you know you are coming 12 …and if you want a car ..get a licence when your 16 where the money coming from ….something for him to think about …he’s going to a good worker cause he’s itching to get a job now but he’s to young for the likes of Macca’s ect for jobs

Do the grandies already have bank accounts Dusty ? I have been transferring money into their already established bank accounts for years. Oh my families can be tricky can't they? I’ve been asking that for years joybelle but never got an answer , I actually set up the older grandkids bank accounts the day after they were born , I didn’t have to produce birth certificates back then the bank said is necessary now …I’ll remind my son over the weekend cause I’m down in City now ….for a little while and I can go pick up B. C. if they have them

If they only have the extracts you might have to pay for the actual birth certificate.

If they only have the extracts you might have to pay for the actual birth certificate. Goodness wonder what that will cost … They are in Adelaide now but were born in same hospital as my son in NSW I may have to have a chat with the bank ask if there any other options joybelle

To purchase a birth certificate costs around $55 Dusty, but I think you may need the parent's consent. Not sure about the consent.

To purchase a birth certificate costs around $55 Dusty , but I think you may need the parent's consent. Not sure about the consent. I phoned the bank yesterday to get 100% correct facts on setting up bank accounts for the children ( I’ve got a direct phone number for the local without having to go through the rigmarole ..of 13000 numbers ) I spoke to the senior lady there and she put me in the right track …. She said I couldn’t get BC without the parents permission ….and I’d never do so without their permission… .. you can’t get an extract it has to a full B.C . Extra cost ….Bank said it has to be a drivers licence or B C Even if I offered to pay for them ….i haven’t ..and I wouldn’t ….they are no good to me anyway because it would involve my son traveling up to where I live because a parent has to be present when setting up a bank account for a child ( I can fully understand that ) Bank advised me to set up a trust account for them in my name …with their names as the beneficiaries .. ( far easier ) so that’s what I’ll do after I speak to my son again joybelle Standard BC for NSW ..$67.00 omg they want to get rich quick …
