Sending the best healing vibes to your hubby, Dusty. What a terrible shock to both of you. Will you drive to Adelaide and stay there as well?

Dusty's hubby is doing remarkably well after the hip operation. He was up and walking within 24 hours of the op. Last I heard after discharge from the hospital he will be going to a live in rehab centre for a short time. All is sounding very positive.

Thanks Drifter what an stressful time in our lives ..he had a complete hip replacement on Friday ,and it looks like he might be sent packing today ( Monday ) I personally thought he should be sent home via the flying doctors or road trip by ambulance but at this stage looks like I’m picking him up if he gets released today ...they recon he doesn’t need rehab cause he’s so independent He’s doing really well walking with a frame being as independent as possible . We are both we can and we will type of people however I’m 75 in two days time( 3 rd feb ) he’s 74 so I’m limited to how much I can lift if it’s necessary ...we will just have to take a day at a time. I hate the city can’t wait to go home , we’d live a 2 hour drive from Adelaide city where the hospital is

R will heal a lot better at home Dusty. You can have a few stops along the way if R needs to stretch out. Is there a physio close by?

At the local hospital but it takes 12 months the to get in to see someone ..or pay $150 a visit to a private practice My neighbour has private medical cover and that’s what it costs him out of pocket ..if I have to I’ll get onto our GP for further assistance .,we are both very much ..we will do what has to be done without thinking twice about it joybelle Allot like you and your hubby

Dusty So glad he is recovering. Trying times, though. Not a very good birthday present, was it!!! February 3rd must have been a good day. Our oldest daughter turns 49 on the 3rd. One of the most frustrating things about on-line friends is the geographical distance that separates us. Drifter has had some challenges handed them in 2020. So much wish my wife and I could have been closer to help if needed. Likewise with you and your hubby. Seems so helpless to be a world away and not be able to help. Keep you chin up. Don't overdo. 74 isn't that old!!!! I turned 74 last November. Now, 75, that's o............. :>)

It's good to hear your husband is doing so well from what he just went through! I hope he continues to improve as the days go by. Yes, do take it one day at a time. Those long drives suck. We went through them all of last year with my husband being treated for cancer. I sure do know what you mean about the city. It feels so good to get out of them & home.

My husband says the best views of big cities is in the rear mirror of the car driving home.

We went through them all of last year with my husband being treated for cancer. I sure do know what you mean about the city. It feels so good to get out of them & home. While I was at the hospital yesterday waiting for hubby to,be released a heap of doctors came into see him ,saying he will need a Walker / toilet riser / pick up stick/ shower chair ...and they put him on vitamin D for muscle and bone strength . apart from the vitamin pills I’d already arranged or bought all the other stuff and the doctors were amazed I was so organised ....one a professor ..said OMG ..Your husband came in as an emergency patient last Thursday and you have all that equipment already ? He went on the say lots come in for elective surgery and they are given heaps of notice of surgery date ....and then when it comes to going home they say they can’t cause they need a Walker ect ....... Not us .....we are organised in what ever we do or in an emergency we’ve got common sense. The professor said to both of us we need to get you two in the educate hip replacement patients Drifter so we do what we have to cope . We have 2 bathrooms so I’ve set him up in the spare bedroom ( queen bed ) which has a door into the main bathroom / loo which he uses all the time anyway ( I have exclusive use of the ensuite ) so he comfy got everything he needs as well as his Apple Watch to contact me if he needs me during the night

I remember some years ago when a local gentleman passed away. My wife said, "Well, he was 70 years old." Seemed old at that time. Today, 74 seems pretty "young". The Good Lord has blessed both my wife and I with good health. So many our age would love to be able to walk over 4 miles... as you have done... or play golf most every day as I do. I still believe part of the success is a stubborn refusal to sit in a recliner and rot away. I'm still up before 5 a.m. every morning. Some mornings I could lay there, but don't. If something hurts, I know I woke up and I've been given another day. Take care of your hubby and get him back to health where he can walk with you. Two of the gentlemen at our golf course I personally know have had total hip replacements... and play lots of golf. You'll have him running circles around you in no time!!!!!
