I started to really question it all when marriage was falling apart, that marriage that is supposed to last "death do we part"...sure....I was in my 30's and knew nothing else, but I woke up.
Started my search for other type churches, and they are mostly just too much dogma...what fit when I found it in the 80"s.. is Science of Mind (SOM).
Oh I have a friend who I have known for 54 some yrs and she is catholic and knows how I feel about it all, and tells me "if I went to church, the arthritis I live with would be much better"...makes me laugh. I have little to say to her these days..she's 93 and her son takes her to mass every sunday, makes her feel good is all I can say.

Born and raised Catholic but in my country... we didn't have these disgusting sexual predators like we do here in United States at least when I was growing up, we never heard of such there.... I still have faith even if I do not agree with the Church's handling of these sick and twisted clergy.... I can't help but believe there are frustrated priests in all countries taking their frustrations out on the alter boys and other boys and other priests. No country I don't believe is exempt. Celabecy is not normal. In my religion the clergy also celibate both monks and nuns. There is only very rare instances of abuse in fact I actually never heard of any growing up in Taiwan To say it not normal is to no understand Monks and nuns have followed Buddha’s teachings for thousands of years without the influence of worldly sexual desires to interfere with the obtaining of enlightenment the whole premise of our faith is the elimination of desire to rid oneself of attachments to lessen suffering not to add to suffering

That may be and I can’t say it isn’t But all I can say is when I grew up in Playa Del Carmen that was not the case... my parish priest was a kindly older man who loved the children He was beloved and when he passed away there was like 800 people at his funeral Not every priest is a creep I said it before and I will say again this phenomena was pretty much in America not South of the Border at least in my experience

I question them all. What do we really know deeply about anyone? The person themselves only know all the truths, secrets, etc. about themselves.

Trust in the Catholic Church? Someone did a lot of research on this subject. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_sexual_abuse_cases_by_countryI got no leadership from any catholic priest in my life. The priest I grew up with was an old mean man and everyone in the church believed this to be true. The most leadership I got in my long life was from Unity and then the Science of Mind spiritual leaders. The first religion in my life gave me the 10 Commandments and that is a tiny version of bibles. I never read any bibles. I don't need bibles to be a good person.

I am sorry you had such a bad experience with priests but as I said before not every priest was a predator My experience was very good in fact until I emigrated to the USA I had only good experiences in the Church My personal differences and difficulties began when I got divorced and then Church Canon and doctrines became more in conflict with my own beliefs and feelings. No priest could convince me that staying with a husband who was a serial cheater and a physical emotional and verbal abuser was a good thing in the eyes of the Church.... As far as the Bible is concerned it is a tome of history and a guide only not to follow blindly.... that’s more for the fundamental evangelicals not Catholics

To each their own choices and paths, Rebecca. I'm not sorry for where I've been, everything I've done have been lessons. Had I not married who I did, etc. I wouldn't have my dear family. No need to be sorry. Thanks.

I remember sitting in the Catholic church on Sunday mornings as a child. Mom would drop us kids off. She would have loved to join us but she was excommunicated by the church she loved because she married a Protestant! Broke her heart.
Where was I? Rebecca, I remember the priest reading from the bible. It was usually from one of the gospels.
When I joined a Protestant church there were 2 things that made me say, WOW! One was the empty cross up there on the alter. The other was when the minister encouraged us, the people, to turn to a chapter and verse in the bible and read along with him. What? We can do that? Lol.
The only bible I saw as a Catholic was in a motel room. Lol. We had something called a Daily Missal but it wasn't a bible.

B.G. I hear you about the motel bible, lol....I learned about keeping on the straight and narrow with the 10 commandments. One good thing came out of catholism for me. I also remember almost passing out so many times due to fasting to take that communion. Never again, nor never those confessions to the man in a long gown. Making up sins to tell him...so young and so naive.

Strange we had Catholic Bibles in my home growing up. I liked the Mass in Latin following along with my missal. Protestants did not want any statues but BG your church had a big cross. My gf’s church had a giant dove up front in what my friend called a Holy Roller Church.

We were more or less told bibles were for the protestants, and we're both from Pgh area. When I think of the brainwashing I can about scream today. We were so divided, not even allowed to walk close to a protestant church..... The church had to make some major changes over decades as so many were dying and leaving the church and the younger people didn't want too much of it all. Nkat, just heard on NPR of a deadly bus/truck crash on the PA Turnpike. Hadn't thought about it for years but a tough turnpike to travel. All those mountains and tunnels.

Crash was farther East. Do not know what caused it, turnpike thought the roads were okey. They feel the tourist bus was the main culprit.

Wonder what that kid did to make the priest loose his noodle? Priests are human too. Not defending him but shaking my head at this! nkat Free country, everyone has the choice to join whatever church they want. seems to be a lot of abuse in many organizations!
