Thank you, Kady , and @bob, for the kind words. Did you get another dog, Bob, or just go on without one, and remembering the lost beloved one who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge ? I think that no other dog could ever replace my Chipper, in my heart, and it doesn’t seem like it is worth trying to find a new dog. Plus, at my age, I do not want to die and leave a dog behind, wondering where I went, and longing for me. I worried about that with Chipper, too,but thought that I would likely outlive him. I belong to our local facebook group for lost and found pets, and sometimes there are neglected dogs on there that are noting but skin and bones, and then I wonder if maybe it would be good to rescue one of those dogs, just to give it a good home and better life than it has been having. We have yet to get another dog, and found the lack of responsibility after she passed was very freeing. No longer did we have to worry about going off for the day and getting home to take care of the dog. We'll may get another one day, but might foster in the interim.

I am so sorry for the loss of everyone's beloved dog(or), I surely know the pain that never seems to go, eventhough time does heal, a little. But the joy that they had given will endure and the good times will replay in memory always. Mija crossed the Rainbow Bridge earlier this year.
Misty passed in late 2016.
Misty & Mija were litter-mates

Angel was adopted abt 3 months after Misty passed. She and Mija became good friends. Both Misty and Mija had reoccurring pancreatitis bad. Additionally, Mija had diabetes, cataracts and glaucoma. Bad genetic line...? They were 1/2 Pomeranian, maybe not a good combination.
Rusty was adopted also about 3 months after Mija, Angel and Rusty are great friends now.

They are love bugs. I have to say- I'm a 'late bloomer' with being a dog fan, just been the past 15 years.
Fur-kids are awesome!
I'm just the opposite. I used to love dogs when I was a kid. Now I hate em. They are annoying as Hell with their incessant barking. My next door neighbor has this annoying little yorkie and everytime she takes that dog out of the house it's yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, till I swear to God I feel like drop kicking the little sucker right over the nearest set of utility wires.
Then I have neighbors that are thank God farther away that have big dogs that have barks that you can hear from a mile off. I don't know how the people that live next to them maintain their sanity. Maybe they don't.
And whatever happened to the concept of "The family Dog"?. There's no such thing as "The family Dog" anymore. Now everybody has to have three, four, or even five godd*mn dogs. And if you go into their house everything stinks of dog and there's dog hair everywhere. And then there's the chew marks on all the furniture and woodwork and scratch marks on all the doors. And then if they want to take a trip somewhere they have to either make arrangements for someone to take care of the damned dogs, or they have to take them along. I see people all the time driving around with a goddamned dog standing in their lap with it's head out the drivers side window barking his goddamned head off. How is that safe?
When I want to go somewhere, I want to just get in the car and go. I like my animals to be where they belong. In the wild, fending for themselves like nature intended.
If you ask me this whole country has gone nuts when it comes to dogs. Why? Is it their personality? Dogs are nothing buy lazy assed suck ups. Maybe thats why people like them. Because they need somebody or something to be servile and suck up to them so that they can feel in control. Not me. Give me an independent cat any day of the week. Not that I like them either but at least they don't bark and act all needy and servile in order to get attention or a handout.

So, I guess it's safe to say that you don't share the joy of having a dog...

I don't think I could manage without a dog or two. I get such pure joy from dogs.

We no longer have a dog, and when we moved to this new location, it was clearly stated in the HOA rules that owning a dog is a not a right. Now that more folks are moving in, most of whom have one or more dogs, the noise is very annoying at times. Just tonight we were sitting out on our deck enjoying a nice mild evening. From several houses down, our neighbors two (large) dogs started barking for a good 10 minutes. If they see someone walking off in the distance, they go off. A few minutes later, the dog two houses down starts barking up a storm for a good five minutes before the owner brought the dog inside. I just don't understand how a responsible owner doesn't realize how annoying their dog can be when it starts barking. If I were to turn up my music nice and loud, you can bet it would be just as annoying to those around me. I'll have to find a way to get the message to those owners who don't silence their dogs. I realize dogs are going to bark. That's normal. But when it goes on for more than a couple of minutes, that's not being a good neighbor.
