I agree, Smitty, I know the reporters on MSNBC have done an awesome job of exposing this, it won't be over until Trump is gone, so I hope they can hang in there.

No...the kids crying had nothing to do with him signing an executive order. He did not like the bad press this policy stunt of his was giving him and he expected the House GOP to fix this mess for him, to save face so he could go to his rally tonight. This Bozo doesn't have a compassionate bone in his body for anyone but himself!

All the GOP cares about is the paychecks they get, no matter what. They do not care, just like Trump.. Don't believe their lies of the few who spoke out,,,, they are just trying to keep their seats.

Trump is a pathetic excuse for a man but he has a very good chance of serving two terms because the Democrats/liberals are too dam@ lazy to actual go to the polls and VOTE. They love to stomp and shout and march and demonstrate with ugly signs and rattle on and on and on on social media about what is wrong with the country but come election day, they won't take the time to actually vote

Although my term of self imposed exile is not up yet I feel compelled to log in and contribute to this thread.
Please do not think of this issue as being about Trump, or the GOP. It is about children consigned to institutional care where they will not be safe. We have gone through a very painful time with a Royal Commission that looked into historic child sexual abuse in various institutions in Australia. The findings were devastating with vulnerable boys and girls being exposed to physical, psychological and sexual abuse on an unimagined scale.
Already several thousand children have been taken from their parents by the current administration; some of them are mere babies. Anyone who can remember the conditions of children in Baltic orphanages and the serious effect on their mental development should be very troubled by this. Apparently this policy was implemented with little forethought about how the children would be cared for and absolutely no plans for re-uniting them with their families.
No-one seems to know where all the children have gone. Where are the babies and toddlers, where are the young girls and boys and how are the teens being handled? Have children from the same family been separated? Who speaks for them to protect their rights?
All Americans with a heart should be uniting in protest at this atrocity and keep pressure on the Administration and the whole of the Congress until the children are restored to their parents and families. Do not allow yourselves to bicker along partisan lines. The children won't be rescued that way. Justice won't be served unless the people unite against this cruelty.

We are still asking "where are the girls?" "where are the babies?" and the Administration will not tell us.. We understand that there are three "Tender Age" facilities.. but we have not had any pictures... The reason being is that pictures of teenage boys.. (ie potential gang members) are better optics than pictures of babies in cages.
In addition, many of the parents of these children have already been deported back to Central America and only given a Toll Free number to call to find their kids.. Many don't even speak Spanish.. but an indigenous native language. The chances of them seeing their children again are slim... So what is going to happen to these kids? Well.. my guess is they will be filtered into our miserable foster system.. and when they are 18 simply deported back to their birth country.. to find their parents themselves. The abuses facing these children are obvious. These kids will be damaged for life.

I heard this morning that medical records have been examined and they reveal that psychotropic drugs have been used without appropriate consent, presumably to pacify the distressed children.
Over here we know very little about how children are treated in our off shore detention camps. There is a virtual lead curtain surrounding these operations - teachers and medical staff have to sign strict non disclosure contracts and no-one is allowed to see anything for themselves. This includes UNHCR personnel and even senators from our own parliament. Some of these children have been living in these camps for six years, for some children that is their whole lives.
The revelations about the situation in US is prompting me to start writing to our federal parliamentarians on behalf of these children. I used to do this some years ago but decided that it was pointless and to tell the truth I became too dispirited to keep it up.
The spontaneous response of the American public and the outcry coming from decent people whether Democrat or Republican supporters has lifted my spirits and given me a new resolve to try to make a difference. I will be demanding answers to questions that have surfaced in my mind about the treatment of asylum seekers that the Australian government has vowed will never set foot on Australian soil. This is not about politics - it is all about the soul of my homeland.

Yes, I heard that too, about the drugs being given to children, little by little info is coming out, exposing the deeds of this administration..I just hope the exposure will be enough to make a difference in November.

So let's see if I understand this..
1. Create a problem by implementing policy
2. Blame problem on Democrats.
3. Whine to base about how much you hate the problem.
4. Swoop in to save the day with executive order to fix problem.
5. Brag to base about what a great problem solver and compassionate leader you are
6. Base believes you and worships you
7. WINNING!!!!
Saying we do not have empathy of the Mexicans is mean spirited.

We don't have camps specifically for children but this government has a hardline policy that no-one who attempts to enter Australia by boat via the islands to our north will ever be allowed to set foot on Australia.
We have long had a policy of mandatory detention of asylum seekers and we kept them in prison-like facilities in remote parts of the mainland. After pressure from the public, families with children were allowed to live outside the razor wire in cottages and the children were allowed to attend school, but always under guard. This was an improvement and public opinion was swinging against prolonged detention in favour of release into the community.
Then one PM decided on the so called Pacific solution which involved paying the small island state of Nauru to house the refugees, for that is what the UNHCR had determined that the majority were. Gradually the number was whittled down until only one man remained. He spent 4 years in captivity.
About a decade ago there was an upsurge in attempted boat arrivals and an election was won using the slogan STOP THE BOATS. Then all sorts of reprehensible tactics were introduced, including intercepting boats in international waters and towing them back to Indonesia. Since most of the boats were leaky fishing boats a number of orange lifeboats were purchased and would be asylum seekers, including families with little children, were transferred to them. They were left adrift close to Indonesian territory with just enough fuel to make it ashore. Orange lifeboats began to be found on beaches and rocks but the real story about what might have happened to the people has never been explored in this country.
For all other boat arrivals the camp on Nauru was reopened for families and another on Manus Island (PNG) was built just for men. I say camp but they are actually tropical prisons, run by private security firms. Secrecy is very tight but we have heard about major incidents such as murders, suicides and attacks on the camps by the local population who resent the intrusion. Anyone needing more than first aid has to be flown to Australia for hospital treatment and treatment has been delayed with serious consequences for some, including pregnant women.
The current policy is to close the camp on Manus and the men have been expelled from it to find work in the local community. They cannot leave the island so they are not free and without extended kinship groups they are pretty much unable to earn enough to support themselves. God only knows how they are getting on because we hear next to nothing, which is the reason they were exiled in the first place. I have no idea what is happening to the families either. New Zealand offered to take some but Australia refused the offer because if they are granted NZ citizenship they would then be able to enter Australia without a visa and the vow that they would never set foot here would be nullified.
This is a shameful chapter in Australia's history. It is xenophobic and racially motivated. Currently we have politicians clamouring for special visas for white South African farmers who are under threat of being dispossessed but families and men who left Africa from further north to avoid being murdered, by passing the overcrowding refugee camps, to attempt to find asylum in Australia have been cruelly treated by my government. It is a vote winning foreign policy.

This cartoon encapsulates why the Australian public isn't as outraged as Americans - this and the apathy that descends over time. The time to act is when the iron is still hot.
