I just saw this video on Facebook about forgiveness. Rang so true, I thought I'd share it. It can't be embedded in a message here like Youtube videos, so I'll post a link.
Not sure if you can view it without being logged into a Facebook account, but here goes:

I don't think she is transgender, just a straight up lesbian perhaps.
Anyway, the forgiveness that she was talking about is for the benefit of the "injured party", not the perpetrator.
I know from personal experience that being bitter or resentful toward someone that did me wrong just eats up too much resources that it doesn't deserve...and serves no purpose.
It's hard for me to say, but I "forgive" the nasty $h!t my ex did in the divorce, that does NOT mean that we are friends and be hangin' out together...ever.

But when I do, I have me a good old George Orwell's 1984 style two minute hate. And when it's over, I feel refreshed!

I feel sorry for my Ex.. poor old man.. He's sick... he's poor... he's lonely... he's regretful and worst of all.. he blew it when he lost me.

I forgive but I don't forget. When people show you who they are, believe them.

I forgive but I don't forget. When people show you who they are, believe them. Exactly.
As they say- "to forgive is divine"....but to forget is just stupid.

Yeah... but some things happened so long ago and are so remote that to even carry around their memory is a waste of time. At some point, just let it fall into the annals of history and forget it. It serves no purpose.

If someone wants to cover themselves in tattoos and deck themselves out like Tim Curry in the Rocky Horror Picture Show and then go on youtube and tell people how to live their lives they are not going to have any credibility with me.

It serves no purpose. Actually not forgetting does serve a purpose, to prevent a occurrence of an undesirable event or situation.

Just found out yesterday my Ex had a heart attack and was in intensive care.. It made me sad.. I couldn't muster one bad memory... nor did I want to. At 70 it's doubtful I would make those same mistakes I made with him.. I'm not at all concerned.

...just to be clear so you'll know- when I speak of "not forgetting" that by no means implies carrying some kind of
grudge, or harboring bad feelings.

I DID make the same mistake twice.. by marrying my 2nd husband... But I learned and didn't repeat that stupid mistake a third time.. They do say three times is the charm though.
