Have a feeling that my wife has come down with the flu. At a minimum she's experiencing some flu-like symptoms. She and I both had our flu shots last November and are diligent about washing our hands when we've been out on errands to the store, but last night she had a mild fever (couldn't warm up), constant headache (no body aches) and now it's developed into a persistent cough. Going to keep a close eye on her today. I suspect I have some bug trying to get a hold in my body, but so far I'm up and about. Never a good time to get sick, but with our move coming up in less than two weeks, this is really not a good time to be under the weather.

It could be the actual flu... only hopefully a milder case due to having had the vaccine.. OR.. it could be just a garden variety cold.. the only way to tell would be for her to have a Flu Swab. If she is positive for type A or type B influenza.. she can be started on Tamiflu.. the sooner the better... like TODAY.. and it will help to mitigate a full blown flu.

Got her to call the doctor's office for a phone consult. Suspect they'll want to see her in urgent care.

Got her to call the doctor's office for a phone consult. Suspect they'll want to see her in urgent care. Good.. because the earlier Tamiflu is started the better... However, if it is NOT the flu and is a cold or other URI then Tamiflu is not going to do anything.. the usual cold remedies are the only action... On a personal note.. ZICAM.. I swear by it.. I have averted many colds by using the nasal swab as soon as I feel something may be coming on. It can actually shorten colds. Any drugstore carries it. I've have wonderful results.

How is your wife feeling Bob . Does she have the flu? Thanks for asking QuickSilver. She spoke to a nurse over the phone yesterday who based on the symptoms, didn't think it warranted coming in yet. Her fever was still under 100° last night, but she's very fatigued and has a constant headache. The nurse seemed to think it's a cold virus, but not the flu. That said, I'm keeping a close eye on her. Fortunately she's still sleeping now, but had a tough night last evening getting to sleep because she felt so miserable.

So, based on my initial observations this morning, she's not showing any improvement over yesterday. Was on her feet for 5 minutes before returning to bed with a headache and nasty cough, but is at least eating. Now just hoping I don't catch it.

Please tell her to put Vicks on her chest, will help the cough and the headache. Hope she feels better soon.

Bob, I hope your wife feels better soon, hope you can dodge this. Sounds like what I had several weeks ago. Last couple days I've been experiencing what appears to be a cold. <sigh> Rest, fluids and OTC remedies to ease symptoms seem to be the best recourse for these aliments.

I read the flu shot was 20 percent effective this year.
One of my coworkers got it and it comes and goes, and takes some time before it goes away.
