Orange Is the New Black. omg, I didn't realize this series has been around for [almost] six seasons. As usual, I am absolutely THE last person in the world to watch. I wasn't going to watch this series, I worked in jails & a prison for over 28 years, so who needs to watch a show about work. But, I'm retired now, and I thought I'd check it out, since I'm fresh out of the type of shows I usually watch on Netflix. It's a comedy. That's a nice change of pace. TV situational comedy these days is usually stupid. OITNB has elements of realism, of course there is much "cliche" type people and situations, and the writer's take occasional "artistic license" with certain aspects of prison.

I watched the first 4(?) seasons. The last one was so boring we won't be watching any more. We did enjoy a couple of seasons though.

I'm watching OITNB while exercising on my elliptical. I'm about half way into Season1 episode3...my workout doesn't start and finish with viewing the episodes from start to finish, for reasons that escape me. I didn't realize that the series was based on memoirs by Piper Kerman. The fact that this series is based on real life helps me view it in a different light. Anyway, this episode is good.

Was taking a break from all the OITNB drama, had re-watched season 1 & 2 of Better Call Saul. Back to OITNB: Just finished S3 E4, amongst all the other goings-on, pregnant Daya's correctional officer boyfriend Bennett is missing, for some reason. She assumes he abandoned her(which of course is possible) and is major bummed out. The realism of this program is both it's attraction, and it's de-traction.

I tried watching it last year, but, I just couldn't get into it, the only character I remember finding facinating was the lady, I think was Russian or from somewhere with a similar accent, it's been a while, so forgive my ignorance. I have thought about giving it another try, this seems like it might be a good time to do so, since I'm running out of series that hold my attention long enough for me to watch to full completion. I've quit in the middle of at least four series in the past few of weeks alone.
I will give this another look sometime this week. : )

Daya and officer Bennett's relationship is bitter sweet, and one of the more interesting facets of the series, for me.

My wife and I watched the first two or three seasons, but grew tired of the story over time. Just didn't feel like it was going anywhere. The characters were interesting, but the story felt dull the longer it went on.

I'm about half way through S3 E12, my time on the elliptical was complete, so I'll pick up on the 2nd half at some other time. It's not real exciting, like "I gotta see what's gonna happen next", more like just Life
goes on...in prison. It would be interesting to know at what points the story line departs Piper's memoirs and becomes strictly fictional.
Most of the characters (inmates and staff) are believable in my view....some do un-believably stupid things, just like in real life.

Been back watching OITNB after taking a hiatus. Finished Season 4 episode 7 where Piper gets branded. OITNB Season 6 premieres this July 27 on Netflix.

Whew, the riot lasted all of Season 5. Sorry for the death of Poussey Washington. I felt sorry for Suzanne(Crazy Eyes) , she's had a difficult life, was afraid she wasn't going to survive after Black Cindy gives her Lithium, but she turned out O.K. Too bad for Humphrey("Humps") the correctional officer that brought the gun in the prison(unauthorized), and subsequently got shot with it, by Daya. As they used to say, she's going to spend "all day" in the joint, meaning a really long sentence.
Season 6 will be available in less than 2 weeks, will need to try and make the season last, until the new Better Call Saul Season 4 starts in...oh! Aug 6, I was thinking Oct. 6 for some reason.

Season six available on Netflix now.
It's funny, I kind of have(maybe past tense- had) a judgmental, non-adventuresome attitude with TV shows and movies.
Walking Dead: Oh no, not gonna watch some series about zombies, for crissake!
Breaking Bad: Oh no, not gonna watch some series that glorifies Meth, for crissake!
Better Call Saul: Oh no, not gonna watch some series about some sleezy lawyer, for crissake!
Orange is the New Black: Oh no, not gonna watch some series that "normalizes" prison life, for crissake!
Turns out, I LOVE those shows! What's next?

Just finished Season Six. No more OITNB for another year, until Season 7 is available. Season 6 was overall a good experience, it tied up [most] loose ends from Season 5, ended on
some high notes, and low notes, just like real life. No real cliffhangers, they could actually end the series right there, although plans for Season 7 do seem to be pretty firm.
Having worked in the detentions & correction field,I looked for realistic characters and story lines as a sign of quality writing. The inmate characters were very well cast, with typical
behavior and back stories. The correctional staff were less realistic, I felt. I am aware that there are staff that are abusive and corrupt, but just not that prevalent, at least in public run
institutions...maybe private detentions is a different story. Privatized correctional systems have the profit motive, which means cost cutting to maximize profits. That means running
facilities understaffed, under trained and under paid.

I'm re-watching OITNB, it was time....I had re-watched TWD seasons 1-5 at least three times, re-watched Breaking Bad(entire series)3 times. Better call Saul I only re-watched Seasons
1-3 twice; watching season 4 episodes weekly on Dish as they come available. I always pick up on details I missed the in the first viewing. One thing I didn't miss the first time, but has been reinforced by 2nd time around viewing is the fact that Piper's fiancé is a
wimpy LOSER. Of course, that could be said of Piper, Alex as well as a dozen or so other characters.
