Early this afternoon I got the Pfizer Bivalent shot covering the BA.4 & BA.5 covid variants. The one I got early last October was Moderna Bivalent for just the BA.1 & BA.2 covid variants. I napped the remainder of this afternoon, feeling achy all over and quite drab. My fever didn't go too high & is already coming down at bedtime. With half a 7.5 mg Xanax tablet and a good night's sleep, I expect to be feeling pretty much back to normal tomorrow. I really appreciate the sense of security these vaccinations provide, although I still mask in public places, etc. Correction: My above post mentioned a 'Xanax' tablet; actually meant 'Zopiclone' tablet (sleeping aid). I don't take Xanax (an anti-anxiety pill I took briefly several decades ago). Guess my injection had my brain a bit addled.

Rough couple weeks. Been trying to get the new $500,000 maintenance facility at our golf course off and running. We are located out in the county, not in the city. Went to the county for our building permit. From the time I submitted plans, 4 hours later I had an email saying our building permit was approved. Notified the concrete contractor so he could plan on starting his work.
The very next morning, got a call from the county. Rules have changed in the past couple months. Our clubhouse is connected to the city water system. Due to that, our building permit must be issued by the city, not the county. (Power grab by the city.) Immediately reapplied to the city. The young man who issues the city permits has an ego the size of the Empire State Building. Power!! Told me it would take at least a month for him to complete the review. Can we proceed with concrete? No!! I was a very unhappy camper.
Pleaded with him. Gave him a list of reasons why we should be issues, at least, a temporary waiver to place our concrete. We had done everything required, until we ran into this recent change. The county had reviewed our engineer stamped plans quickly. He wouldn't budge. Power!
If I cancelled our concrete contractor, didn't know when we would get him back. Spent a significant time of my career dealing with engineers who had oversized egos. Visited with a good friend who is a local banker. He's pretty well connected with one of our city commissioners. We came up with a plan.
My friend called his city commissioner buddy and set up a coffee meeting with him. During that meeting, found the city commissioner had no idea of the building permit change from county to city. Also, was pretty amazed the county had worked that fast while the city staff person said it would take a month. He told my friend that he would personally visit the office of the plan reviewer right after lunch and tell let him understand he was to serve the citizens, not hold us hostage just to elevate his own ego.
At exactly 1:00 p.m., I called the young man at the city. Asked how things were going. He told me he was super busy and had not even started on our plan review. When I asked him why the difference between the county's review and his, he replied that he did a more thorough review. I unloaded!!! Told him we had paid good money with a local engineering firm to design our facility. Our plans we had submitted were stamped by professional engineers. Those stamps are the engineer's career. They testify he/she has been trained in the specific specialty and have based their design to satisfy all codes, building integrity, and occupant safety. Said he had to go. A person had just walked into his office.
Well, 45 minutes later, I got a call from the young man. Said he would have the review done today and we should have the permit early next week!! Guess the person who entered his office was the city commissioner. The young man was quite curt with me. I thanked him for his decision to move things forward. He hung up on me.
Fighting this for over a week, has worn me out. Man, did I sleep good last night! Usually get by with 5 1/2 to 6 hours sleep. Woke at 3:30 yesterday morning worked up about this permit issue. Zonked out early evening. Woke up this morning after sleeping soundly for 8 1/2 hours!!!!
Life is good.....

Feeling 90% better today. Catching up on housework. Laundry, changing bedding, vacuuming, dusting and cleaning bathrooms. Tomorrow, going to the store for groceries.

I finally got a long-overdue haircut this afternoon. It's a very short pixie cut, turned out great.
After that I stopped at Sobeys grocery store, got a package of local strawberries (Yum!) and a few other grocery items. Also bought a gorgeous large potted plant of tall flowers, annuals called 'Granvia Gold' for my balcony.
A very satisfying outing!

Granddaughter got a diamond yesterday evening. We think quite a bit of the young man she is planning on spending the rest of her life with. His parents flew in from Maryland on Thursday. Yesterday evening, both sets of parents and the couple went out to dinner. He had preplanned it to ask her to marry him during the dinner.
I sure not like it was when we were growing up! He had met with the son-in-law last Sunday to ask for her hand in marriage. Son-in-law said he would reply the same way I had replied when he asked to marry our daughter... "Well, you own a house together and have been living together so it's about time!!" I don't remember that, but he sure does! :>) She's the young lady who got her RN this past January. Will turn 21 in September. We're supposed to go over to their home for a cookout this evening. Will get to meet his parents.
Getting gutter covers put on the house today. Anxious that they won't be done by the time we need to head over to the granddaughter's. Don't want to leave workers here on the roof in this heat, but might just do that. They didn't show until after 9:00 a.m. Should have got up a little earlier like us old folks do!!

Congratulations to your granddaughter 2old ! Thanks! They seem to be a content couple. He puts up with her OCD. She puts up with his messiness. When she's working nights, he'll make sure to have "breakfast ready" before she leaves for work 6 p.m. ish. She's about 5'2. He's 6'2 or 6'3. She has a 110 lb. full blood German Shepherd that is smarter than she is! He has a 120 lb. Shepherd/Huskie mix, smarter than he is. Both are male dogs and both neutered. They bonded like brothers, sleep together, curl up together on the sofa, etc. Last week, they added a 60 lb. Black Lab/Pit mix. She's a sweetheart. Been abused and extremely timid. Won't walk through a doorway. Must have been locked into small rooms or something. She likes the Shepherd Huskie mix. He doesn't want anything to do with her. The Shepherd likes her, but she wants nothing to do with him. Just like siblings. And, the "boys" did adopt her as a sister and no growling, etc. Thanks goodness they have a fenced back yard for the dogs to exercise in. Both of their parents... our daughter and SIL and his folks... are on their first marriages, each married over 25 years. He did 3 years in the Army and now works for a local vending company. While in the Army, his parents would fly to visit him 2 or 3 times/year. The granddaughter flew back to meet his folks in June. Scary in today's society to see kids/grandkids get married. Just have to cross your fingers.

Today, picked 10 quarts of blueberries off our bushes, and 2 quarts of blackberries. Placed them in the freezer for winter baking. Also trimmed a row of hedges.

Let me now when a couple pieces of blueberry pie for the wife and I will be arriving. :>) Meetings from mid afternoon, yesterday, until after 7 p.m. Have a couple amazing guys on the Finance Committee. They've done a fantastic job getting the 2024 budget almost ready to present to the membership. I'm not adept enough with the new technology as they are. One works for a bank and the other is a CFO of a local business. Nice when you have such talented and committed people to keep things running. We had a little shower this morning so I didn't play golf. Had a meeting with the bank early afternoon and another meeting late afternoon with one of the vendors for the new building. Both really good meetings. Golf tomorrow morning and a doctor appointment late morning. Wife's birthday tomorrow so I have to behave!

I went to the gym early, then ran by the coffee shop on the way home. Been sticking with iced coffee, because it is far to hot to have a hot drink right now. Ran home to shower & feed our pets, then off to work. Now I'm home, dreading going back out in this heat to water my garden, but it must be done. After that, I'm going to start dinner & stay in the nice, cool air condition for the remainder of the evening.

After doing 3 loads of laundry, changed the sheets on the beds, ran the vacuum, headed outdoors, picked more blueberries then helped hubby cut down and haul away 16, 40 foot pine trees and a dead elm tree.
Came in, fed my animals, then made supper. Washed dishes, then went back outdoors and started a fire to burn some brush. Started to rain around 8 PM, so we came indoors and am now enjoying a cup of coffee and checking out our forum. To say the least, I'm exhausted.
