Been really grumpy most of the day. "Forced" to go visit brother-in-law and his "new" wife tomorrow. I don't like him and despise her more. But... being hinted if I want our 56 year marriage to make 57 years, suck it up!!
The "happy couple" was married about 1970. BIL was in the Army. She had been married before and had a daughter. He adopted the daughter and they had two boys. During one of his deployments, she decided she liked another soldier better than the BIL. He came home to an empty house and divorce papers.
A few years later, he married again. Married an evil woman, worse than the first wife. The second wife was extremely controlling and would not allow him to visit the children... who were now living with his former wife's third husband. He put up with his second wife until she passed about 2 years ago. The were married over 30 years.
In the meantime, his first wife had divorced her third husband and was with a fourth. The adopted daughter had passed of cancer. And, he still had not been "allowed" to see his two sons.
When his second wife died, he went to see his sons. They were both married and had grandkids for him. His first wife... the boys' mother... was now a widow. Her fourth husband had died in a work related accident.
You can probably guess the rest. They remarried the last week of December. So... He is now married the third time, but to his first wife. His wife is now married the fifth time, but to her second husband again.
Here for Thanksgiving, they couldn't keep their hands off each other. In a house full of family, they're cuddling, kissing, rubbing each others legs. We wouldn't have allowed any of our own kids to put on a show like they did in our home!!! Regurgitating!!!
On top of this all, he decided to take up golf about a year ago. Joined my golf club. Has found his way into our regular golf group. Slow. Has about hit golfers twice with errant shots. Doesn't meld well with the others in our long time group. But... I'm supposed to just smile and be happy.
So... tomorrow we're going to their house for an afternoon "reception" to show how happy we are they have retied the knot. I could write a novel about their past 50 years. Would probably be a best seller!! It's not a happy evening at our home.....

I made a mincemeat pie...it's in the oven and starting to smell delicious. It needs to cool for 8 hours, so I'll treat myself to a slice this evening before bed.

Riding lawnmower purchased Friday was delivered this afternoon. "Baby" rider. 30" cut. That way it will go through the gates to the back yard. Rolled it into the garage. 30 degrees outside with wind so not going to do any mowing today!
Will get it gassed up and running tomorrow. Need to mulch leaves. Grass is beginning to show some green.

I went for my eye exam/checkup this afternoon, first one since before the pandemic began. All went well- my diabetes hasn't had any negative effects on my eyes after 5-1/2 years with the condition, and I still don't need a new prescription for my reading glasses.

I couldn't do much today because the electric power was off for about 9,000 people in my area of the city, from before 11am until past 9pm. I read (thanks to a bright sunny day), puttered around a bit, and listened to my battery-operated radio. I made a turkey breast sandwich for supper (couldn't cook the strip steak I had planned on).
The weather was perfect for a nice walk, but our elevators don't work when the power is off, and I can no longer manage climbing the steep steps to the 9th floor of my building. Going down I can do, but up is a completely different story at my age & health status. All in all it was a boring, but restful, day!

I got everything mowed and trimmed, yesterday, preparing for the predicted rain. Sure easier since we got the riding lawnmower. One of my wife's friends has a weather radio. She said all she could get on it was static. Wife brought it home for me to program. Took it back to her, yesterday. She called my wife late afternoon saying the weather radio went off when they issued a severe thunderstorm watch. Sheesh! The "brownie points" I rack up with all these 80+ year old ladies!! :>)

Early this afternoon I got the Pfizer Bivalent shot covering the BA.4 & BA.5 covid variants. The one I got early last October was Moderna Bivalent for just the BA.1 & BA.2 covid variants.
I napped the remainder of this afternoon, feeling achy all over and quite drab. My fever didn't go too high & is already coming down at bedtime. With half a 7.5 mg Xanax tablet and a good night's sleep, I expect to be feeling pretty much back to normal tomorrow.
I really appreciate the sense of security these vaccinations provide, although I still mask in public places, etc.

Interesting couple of weeks. One of my wife's friends lost her husband one year ago this month. She has now sold her home and is moving to an apartment in a retirement village. Movers were to be there last Wednesday. My wife had spent lots of time assisting her with some minor packing. I had helped get pictures off the walls, etc.
Saturday night, before the Wednesday scheduled movers, she fell. Broke a hip and the humerus... the bone between her shoulder and elbow. Surgery for the hip on that Sunday and the arm on that Tuesday. So, when movers arrived, my wife and another lady spent the day telling them what to load and where to put it in the apartment. Her kids live 250 miles from here and weren't here to help.
She was moved to the rehab part of the retirement village on Thursday. Friday, they took her by wheelchair to see her new apartment with her furniture in it. Well, we went through her wanting this here instead of there, etc. And, she wanted some items taken back to her home for an estate sale. I was tasked with that moving.
She is recovering fine. Should be able to go from rehab to her apartment in a few more weeks. Wife visiting her every day and they spend quite a bit of time on the phone. Estate sale today.
Then, yesterday afternoon was visited by the son-in-law of our next door neighbors. He's 90 and she's 87. She has not been in really good health the past couple years. The SIL said she has been diagnosed with leukemia and the docs say there's not much that can be done with her age and overall health condition. Giving her 2 weeks +/-. Really good neighbors.
Having a difficult time with one of the wife's brothers. He is on his third marriage and his "new" wife on her fifth marriage. At 70 he's decided to take up golf and expects to be part of my regular golf group and ride in my golf cart. He stinks so I have to leave the doors off when he plays. He's slow and holds up the entire group. After a couple of the group got pretty upset with having him slow everyone down, yesterday, I have to find some means of making a change. Either upset him or leaving my golf group I've been part of for the past 10 years.
I think I need counseling.... :>)

I did some laundry this morning, and placed an on-line grocery order which will be delivered this afternoon. Not much else planned; may watch a movie.

Going to take advantage of the nice weather today and do some mowing and weed whacking this afternoon, once the frost dries on the grass. Was down in the high 20's this morning when I first got up.

Live in the boonies! lol Nights are usually cold but temps rise quickly once the sun breaks in the morning. It's great weather to walk in. We got all our grass mowed and I weed whacked for 3 hours. We have rain coming in for the next 4 days, so we had to get it done today.

Drifter - sounds like you have the same weather as we have in MN. It is 48F today and raining. Supposed to be like this over the week-end.
